Herbert Clark Hoover (August 10 1874 - October 20 1964) was the 31st (1929-1933) President of the United States. Formerly having served as Secretary of Commerce under Harding and Coolidge, Hoover became President in 1928. He lost to F.D. Roosevelt in 1932 due to his implementation of ineffective policies to tackle problems faced during the Great Depression.
