List of CW affiliates

The following is a list of confirmed affiliates of The CW Television Network, which launched September 18, 2006, together with their former affiliation. The new network resulted from the shutdown of both the WB and UPN networks, both of which had begun in January 1995.

The new network is based around 16 WB affiliates owned by the Tribune Company (co-owner of the WB along with Time Warner) and 11 UPN affiliates owned by CBS Corporation. From March 1, 2006 to present, 148 more affiliates have signed up with the network, bringing the CW's total distribution to 175 stations, covering an estimated 95.289 percent of U.S. television homes. The largest of these additional affiliate groups are Pappas Telecasting, with ten affiliates (six broadcast stations, one digital and three local cable channels); Sinclair Broadcast Group, which affiliated eight of its stations to The CW after a reported two month dispute over reverse compensation to the network; and ACME Communications, which committed broadcast stations in all seven markets in which it operates.

KNVA in Austin, Texas owned by LIN Television and KWKB in Iowa City, Iowa owned by KM Communications are the only two stations carrying both The CW (as a primary) and MyNetworkTV (as a secondary). In addition, WTVY in Dothan, Alabama, a CBS affiliate owned by Gray Television, now carries MyNetworkTV on a digital subchannel which was previously affiliated with UPN, and also added a third digital subchannel for The CW. WTOK-TV in Meridian, Mississippi, also owned by Gray, added two more digital subchannels for The CW and MyNetworkTV, in addition to ABC on its main channel and Fox on another subchannel.

At least one major station owner, Equity Broadcasting, has appeared to be shunning The CW; all of its UPN and WB affiliates are joining either MyNetworkTV or Equity-owned Retro Television Network (RTN). Equity's actions have apparently left the Fort Smith, Arkansas DMA (#102) without a CW affiliate, as Equity owns all three analog stations that could have assumed the CW affiliation there: KPBI-TV, formerly KBBL-TV, (WB) and low power repeater KPBI-CA, which just lost its Fox affiliation, are both going to MyNetworkTV; KFDF-CA (UPN) is going to RTN. Equity sold WBMM in Montgomery, Alabama before its new owner SagamoreHill Broadcasting decided to affiliate with The CW.

Note: According to an article in The Oklahoman (January 26, 2006), UPN affiliate KAUT-TV Oklahoma City was referenced in error in the initial announcement. It was acquired by The New York Times Company from CBS in late 2005. The station and My Network TV made an official announcement of affiliation with that network August 24, after KAUT was shown as an affiliate on the network website August 22. The CW affiliated with the station KOCB in Oklahoma City instead.
