WDAY-DT2 (channel 6-2 through PSIP) is a digital subchannel of WDAY-TV based in Fargo, North Dakota affiliated with The CW network operated by Forum Communications, and programmed by The CW Plus, which is a group of CW stations in TV markets past 100 in ranking. "WBFG" was a fictious call sign used when it was a The WB affiliate.

In most areas WDAY-DT 6.2 is seen on cable on channels 7, 8, or 14, though its former WB logo showed it as "Northland's WB 8", which is the channel it is carried on in Fargo. In Grand Forks, WDAY-DT 6.2 is carried on cable channel 7, and was sometimes marketed as "Northland's WB 7" to prevent confusion with WDAZ, which broadcasts on channel 8. In most towns outside of Grand Forks and Fargo, WDAY-DT 6.2 is seen on cable channel 14.

[edit] Programming

Most of the programming outside of the network's primetime schedule and Kids WB lineup is satellite-fed from The CW Plus. The CW Plus is made for TV markets ranking past 100 according to Nielsen that don't have an over-the-air TV station which could air The CW, so they let a cable company establish a cable channel, or another TV station (like in this case) air a digital subchannel with CW programming. Both WDAY and WDAZ advertise CW programs.

[edit] History

WBFG launched as a cable-only The WB affiliate in 1998 programmed by The WB 100+ Station Group, a predecessor to The CW Plus. WB 100+ was made to get The WB on cable screens in small and medium TV markets, and let a local cable TV company or another TV station operate a cable channel carrying The WB network with imaginary call letters (like "WBFG", which stood for WB Fargo-Grand Forks) and WB 100+ programming up all non-network slots on the schedule, and let the operator of the cable channel air local commercial inserts and have a unique local branding (like "Northland's WB8").

On January 24, 2006, The WB and UPN networks announced they would merge. The newly combined network would be called The CW, the letters representing the first initial of its corporate parents CBS (the parent company of UPN) and the Warner Bros. unit of Time Warner (a parent company of The WB). The merger took affect on air on September 18, 2006. In response to the merger, News Corporation (the owner of Fox) launched another network, MyNetworkTV, on September 5, 2006, which is seen on former UPN affiliate KCPM of Grand Forks, North Dakota.

A digital subchannel of co-owned WDAY-TV (channel 21-2 or 6-2 through PSIP) was launched on September 18, 2006 branded as "Fargo CW" which replaced WBFG.
