Bavaria (German - Bayern) is the biggest part of Germany. The capital is Munich with 1,3 million people. About 12,4 million people live in Bavaria.
Bavaria has seven parts: Oberbayern (Upper Bavaria), Niederbayern (Lower Bavaria), Schwaben (Swebia), Mittelfranken (Middle Franconia), Unterfranken (Lower Franconia), Oberfranken (Upper Franconia) and Oberpfalz (Upper Palatinate). Bavaria has 71 smaller parts and 25 free cities.
The highest point is the Zugspitze, which is also the highest mountain in all of Germany. The second biggest city is Nurnberg, which is famous for its Lebkuchen, a kind of Christmas bread.
Pope Benedict XVI was also born in Bavaria.
