Diving is a form of movement downwards, either from air to ground or to water. Diving is also a sport, as seen in scuba diving.
[edit] Diving in water
There are 6 different types of dives and 4 different body positions that you can perform the dive in. The 6 different types of dives are: Forward, backward, reverse, inward, twisting and armstand. A forward dive is where the diver faces towards the front of the board and rotates towards the water. A backward dive is where the diver stands at the end of the board with their back towards the water and rotates away from the board. A reverse dive is where the diver begins facing the water but while in the air turns towards the board. An inward dive is where the diver begins with their back to the water and while in the air, turns inward to the board. A twisting dive is any of the above with a twist in it. An armstand dive is where the diver does a handstand on the platform before starting their dive from the handstand position.
[edit] Body Positions
The 4 different body positions are tuck, pike, straight and free. The tuck position is where the body is bent at the waist and knees, your thighs are close to your chest and you knees are close to your buttocks. The pike position is where you legs are straight and your body is bent at the waist, the arm position is decided by the diver. The straight position is where there is no bend in the body at all, there maybe a slight ache depending on the dive. The free position is not an actual body position but is where the diver uses a combination of the positions, it is usually used when doing a dive with a somersault or a twist in it.
