Manuel Ignacio de Vivanco

Manuel Ignacio de Vivanco was a Peruvian politician and military leader, holding the presidency from 1843 to 1844. Born in Valparaíso, Chile in 1806, he led part of the Peruvian forces in the campaign against the reuinification of Peru-Bolivian Confederacy.
During the second administration of Agustín Gamarra, he was appointed prefect of Arequipa, but he had every intention of becoming president. In 1843, he rebelled against Gammara, but was defeated and fled to Bolivia. When Gammara died, he returned to Peru and soon became president with the title Supreme Director of la Republic.
