A tsunami is a type of wave in the ocean caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or even meteors. It is measured by an instrument called a Richter Scale. This measures how strong the tsunami (or earthquke) is.
The deadliest tsunami in recorded history was on December 26, 2004. A 9.0 earthquake was centered in the ocean near the coast of Sumatra. Over 275,000 people died from this disaster. Moving very quickly, hundreds of thousands of people in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, India, Somalia, and other nations, were killed or injured by the giant wave of about 100feet! When a tsunami is about to occur quickly run on a high hill, and keep on running because you can never escape it!
