Björk Guðmundsdóttir (Reykjavík, 21 de novembro de 1965) é uma cantora islandesa muito famosa no meio da música alternativa.

Sua carreira começou aos onze anos de idade, quando começou a estudar piano no Ensino Fundamental. Aos catorze anos, Björk começa a receber influências musicais da cena punk de Reykjavik, e forma a sua primeira banda Spit and Shot, formada exclusivamente por meninas. Depois disto, canta em uma rádio de Reykjavik a canção I love to love. Essa banda dura pouco tempo, e logo em seguida forma a banda Exodus, com alguma influência do Jazz.

Aos quinze anos, gradua-se em música, e forma em 1981 juntamente com o baixista do Exodus, Jakob Magnússon a banda Tappi Tíkarrass, e lança o single Bitið fast í vitid.

Em 1983 forma a banda punk anarcopunk Kükl, e excursiona pela Europa no ano seguinte. Pela primeira vez Björk passa ser conhecida na cena underground européia.

Em 1986 juntamente com elementos das famosas bandas islandesas Þeyr e Purrkur Pillnikk, monta a banda avant-garde Sugarcubes, e torna-se conhecida fora da Europa. A banda grava o single Ammæli, que torna-se o primeiro sucesso dos Sugarcubes, e manteve-se durante algum tempos nas paradas de sucesso da Grã-Bretanha.

O resultado comercial aquém do esperado, e desentendimentos com Einar Örn, acabaram por dissolver a banda em 1992. Björk muda-se para Londres e inicia a sua carreira solo.

A partir de então, torna-se uma das grandes estrelas da música pop.

Atua como atriz principal do filme Dançando no Escuro, do diretor Lars von Trier e com a , em 1999. Este trabalho rende-lhe a Palma de ouro no Festival de Cinema em Cannes, como melhor atriz. No entanto o filme gerou diversos conflitos entre o diretor e Björk, fazendo com que ela afirmasse publicamente que nunca mais participaria de um filme.
