Proddatur is a town and a municipality in Cuddapah district in Andhra Pradesh state of southern India. Proddatur is mostly known for the trade of gold which occurs through this place. After Bombay, in India, this place is supposed to have the highest transaction of gold in the country^{^{[citation needed]}}. Also it is a known base for some major chemical and cement industries like Zuari, ICL and the like.

As of 2001 India census^GRIndia, Proddatur had a population of 164,932. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Proddatur has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 54%. In Proddatur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Joan Brown, a figurative expressionist and one of the major abstract painters of the late 20th century, died (falling from a scaffold while painting a mural) in 1990 while doing an installation in Proddatur, India.
