Nalgonda District is a district in Andhra Pradesh. It has a population of 3,247,982 of which 13.32% is urban as of 2001. [1]

Towns in the district include Nalgonda, Suryapeta, Kodad, Miryalguda , Kattangur, Bhongir, Alair, Narketpalli, Huzurnagar, Devarakonda, Yadagirigutta,Mothkur and Nakrekal.
The rivers Krishna, Musi, Aleru, Peddavagu, Dindi and Paleru flow through Nalgonda district.
There are 2 major irrigation projects in Nalgonda:
- Nagarjuna Sagar, and
- AMR (Alimineti Madhava Reddy) Project (previously known as Srisailam Left Bank Canal)

- Dindi Reservoir

The district has a population of 3,238,449 and covers an area of 14,240 km² (2001 census). The literacy rate is 58%.

[edit] Places to visit in Nalgonda District
- Nagarjuna Sagar: 60 km from Nalgonda and 150 km from Hyderabad. Sagar, as it is called in Nalgonda, has the world's highest masonary dam and a Buddhist site dating back to the 3rd century BC. The Buddhist site, Nagarjuna Konda, is situated in the reservoir of the dam. It is named after the Buddhist monk Acharya Nagarjuna who was instrumental in spreading Buddhism in this part of the country.
- Panagal: 3 km from Nalgonda town. Panagal has temples dating to the 12th century Kakatiya period and the Krishnadevaraya period.
- Yadagiri Gutta: Holy shrine of Sri Lakhsmi Narasimha Swamy. Located about 60km from Hyderabad
- Bhongir Fort: 90 km from Nalgonda, 50 km from Hyderabad. Bhongir has a huge fort on a hill built during 12th century by Vikramaditya, a Chalukya king.

- Huzurnagar: 47 km from Nalgonda, 16 km from Kodad

Clean drinking water, water supply for irrigation and educational facilities for all are perhaps the most important problems Nalgonda faces right now.
Nearly 500 villages in Nalgonda are affected by the high fluorine content in water. It is estimated that nearly 1 million people are affected by Fluorosis in Nalgonda.
