- Zarathustra (زرتشت), Iranian prophet and author of the Avestan Gathas (probably 1200 BC)
- Mani (مانی), Persian religious leader and founder of Manichaeism (approximately 210-276 A.D.)

Most of the ancient Persian literature was lost during the Islamic conquest of Persia.

Morteza Motahhari lists the name of dozens of Iranians who contributed to Arabic, Persian, or Pahlavi literature during the Umayyid occupation period of Iran.[1] Although not particularly famous for Persian literature, nevertheless some of the more notable names are:
