Instant messaging
From Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia written in simple English for easy reading.
Instant messaging lets people send instant messages (text-based conversation) to each other over a network, such as the Internet. Many instant messengers (instant messaging software programs; only America Online can use the words "instant messenger" to describe the services) also have extra features that let people speak to each other if they have microphones, and let them see each other if they have webcams.
One of the most popular instant messengers is ICQ. Some other instant messaging programs are AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Jabber, MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger.
