Altitude
From Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia written in simple English for easy reading.
Altitude is normally defined as the height of an object or place above sea level. For every 1000 meters above the ocean that the altitude is, the temperature drops three degrees.
[edit] Rising Air
A good example of air rising and cooling to become snow is Mount Cotopaxi in Ecuador. The equator runs directly through Ecuador, but there is still snow on the top of Mount Cotopaxi due to air rising, creating water vapor, and then cooling to become snow from the change in temperature due to the altitude of the mountain.
