Psychologue analyste américain. Il se désigne lui-même comme analyste Jungien, et va radicaliser la psychologie Jungienne. Pour cette raison sa psychologie est qualifiée d'archétypale.
Directeur pendant plusieurs années de l'Institut Carl G. Jung à Zurich, professeur invité aux Universités de Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Syracuse et Dallas. Il est également éditeur (Editions Spring)
