Vanadzor (Armenian: Վանաձոր) — previously known under the Turkish name Karakilisa, meaning "black church," and later named Kirovakan (after Sergey Kirov) is a city in northern Armenia. It is the capital of the Lorri province, and the third-largest city in the country with a population of 107,394 (2001 census). The city is considered to be one of the most picturesque in the entire country, having beautiful summer homes or dachas. The city is dominated by a large chemical plant.
