[edit] Overview
The Power Of Five is a rewrite of a 1980s series that was planned to have five installments; Horowitz only completed four. The series focuses on orphan Matt Freeman, a 14-year-old boy who is destined to defeat mystical entities known only as 'The Old Ones' with the help of four other "Gatekeepers" who are his age.

[edit] Raven's Gate
Raised in foster care, Matt Freeman always knew he had strange powers. After he attempts to steal DVDs from a local warehouse, he is sent to Yorkshire as part of a rehabilitation programme, named the LEAF Project, only to find himself in the midst of sinister happenings. He decides to investigate and uncovers a great secret - five guardians are protecting the world from evil beings known as The Old Ones who were banished through the Raven's Gate. But devil worshippers want to let them back in, again through the gate. Along with a mysterious group known as the Nexus, will Matt be able to stop The Old Ones from returning?
Raven's Gate was released in the UK on August 1, 2005 and in the United States on June 1, 2005.
[edit] Evil Star
After his events of Raven's Gate, Matt thinks his days of battling evil are over. But soon he is pulled into another terrible adventure when he discovers a second gate exists. Matt and his friend Richard travel to Peru and, assisted by the Nexus, follow clues to the gate's whereabouts. But there is a traitor in the Nexus. Matt's friend Richard is kidnapped but Matt manages to escape with the help of a local Peruvian, Pedro . The pair travel to the Nazca desert and Matt realizes the horrifying truth - the Nazca lines are the second gate and it is about to open, again increasing the chance of The Old Ones returning. Once again, Matt must prevent it happening. The traitor turns out to be Fabian, a Peruvian author in the Nexus.
Evil Star was released in the UK on April 3, 2006 and in the United States on June 1, 2006.
[edit] Nightrise
The third book, Nightrise, will revolve around American twins Jamie and Scott Tyler, who live in Los Angeles, California. According to Horowitz, "everything changes because of what happens in the second book". [citation needed] The twins' special powers, assuming they are the third and maybe fourth Gatekeepers, would appear to be mind-reading, as they perform mind-reading acts in their local theatre. During one such act, Scott is kidnapped by a sinister corporation called Nightrise, leaving Jamie alone and wanted for murder. He soon becomes embroiled in a corrupt presidential campaign (involving the attempted assassination of the future president) and is propelled into a terrifying adventure which reveals more about the first fateful battle against the Old Ones. Jamie apparently travels ten thousand years into the past during the novel [1]. According to Horowitz's official website [2], Nightrise is like nothing he has done before. This website also reveals that a town called Auburn will feature towards the end of the book, and several juvenile offenders that Horowitz met during his research will be used as characters in the book. This suggests that part of the book will be set in the prisons Horowitz visited, possibly because Jamie is caught by the police and arrested. The book will take place mainly in the deserts of Nevada and the mountains of California. It is confirmed that Matt Freeman and Richard Cole do feature in this book, along with a new heroine (Horowitz's first female hero) named Scar.[3] It is unclear if Jamie and Scott are two Gatekeepers or just one, or if Pedro will appear in this book. The first chapter of the book is hidden somewhere on Horowitz's website. Nightrise is due to be released on April 2 2007 in the UK.
[edit] Future books
Horowitz describes the fourth book as being about a girl (probably Scar) in a sole battle[citation needed]. It will be set in Hong Kong[4]. He puts its length on par with one of the Harry Potter installments, suggesting it will have a large page count[citation needed]. The fifth, Horowitz says, will be a climatic battle for the end of the series[citation needed].
