Stay Fly
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Stay Fly" or "Stay High" is the first single from rap group Three 6 Mafia's 2005 album Most Known Unknown. The song's distinctive hook helped it become a huge nightclub hit.
The original title of the song is "Stay High", a clear reference to drugs, and was changed for radio purposes. The track features fellow Memphis rap group Eightball and MJG and G-Unit artist Young Buck, a native of Nashville, Tennessee. The single helped propel Most Known Unknown to Gold status. It samples Willie Hutch's "Tell Me Why Our Love Has Turned Cold?". Paris Hilton was reportedly so impressed with "Stay Fly" that she asked Three 6 Mafia to collaborate with her on a few tracks on her debut album. The video features an appearance from newly-recruited G-Unit member Spider Loc. Two remixes were produced, one featuring Southern rappers like Trick Daddy, Slim Thug, and Three 6 Mafia affiliate Project Pat. The second features Lil' Flip and Trick Daddy.
[edit] Controversy
It has been alleged that female voice heard throughout the song is singing words of praise towards Lucifer (Lucifer, You're My King, You're My Father or You Are God, You Are King, Lucifer), adding fuel to the rumor that Three 6 Mafia worships the Devil. This rumor is untrue. The voice is actually a sample from the same Willie Hutch song that provided the basis for the rest of the beat. The lyrics are You're my pride, you're my dream, you're my darling. It caused so much controversy that the group rerecorded the track with different lyrics. They eventually reverted back to the old lyrics, feeling that the new lines did not fit in what the song was really about.
