[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. [edit] Proposals for AMA Membership Meeting

As AMA Coordinator I am requesting that suggestions be placed on Wikipedia:AMA Membership Meeting plans for our first membership meeting, to be held in the near future, (hopefully before any election occurs.) Since we have never had any kind of "official" meeting we need to discuss how this will occur (i.e. Wiki pages or IRC channel), how it will be structured (i.e. meeting agenda) and if there will be any "chair" to supervise the meeting and meeting "secretary" to write up minutes or keep some kind of official record of what transpires. Thanks in advance for your input and your continued work as an advocate. — © Alex756 20:30, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Human Rights Servey on Wikipedia (The final post of I_sterbinski)

Dear all,
Wikipedia was recently a subject of intensive research of an huge international human right organization. A team of people from different nationalities and ages were acting on Wikipedia for 20 days, investigating previously noted anomalities of Wikipedia free editing and forming a final report, which (between the others similar reports) will later be a guide to all future moves of the organization concerning Wikipedia. Acting under an account of a real person, their privacy is to be held private. Therefore, very few private information will be revealed.
Also, this is a result of the lack of final possition of the organization concerning Wikipedia and human rights, which was still not formed.
The team's final post on Wikipedia, where they explain their actions can be found on the following addresses:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:I_sterbinski
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Macedonia#Human_Rights_Servey_on_Wikipedia_.28The_final_post_of_I_sterbinski.29
The team would like to thank to all the persons who took part in the correspondence with us.
We also want to appologise for keeping our identity secret for a longer period.
Best regards,

[edit] Sources for Kozu Station

Hello, good work on Kozu Station, and thanks for the contribution. However, you forgot to add any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. From what websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Kozu Station? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? You can simply add links, or there are several different citation methods list at WP:CITET. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 19:57, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] KKs and American corporations

I was glad to see some of the changes you made to the article on kabushiki gaisha. It looks like an earlier contributor didn't know that any incorporated entity is a corporation, let alone many of the finer distinctions between types of corporations.

In your edits today (23 January), you refer to "closed KKs" and "non-closed KKs"; I'm uninformed about these terms (closed vs non-closed); could you elaborate on these a little? I'm familiar with "closely held" companies—ones whose unlisted shares are held by a small group of people—and was wondering if there is any distinction here; e.g., "closed" KKs being ones whose shares are all held by one person or other entity, and "non-closed" but also not public being ones whose shares are held by a limited number of people.

Could you also give the Kabushiki kaisha#History paragraph a once over? The statement that kabushiki gaisha resemble "prewar American corporations" looks a little fishy. Given the context, writing that they resemble prewar Illinois corporations would make sense, but saying just American corporations seems to me to be a bit of a broad sweep of the brush. I think it should say what kind of American or Illinois corporation as well.

Also, given your self-intro on your user page, I'd like to suggest that you take a look at the article on yugen kaisha, since some of the terminology there looks a bit imprecise. Maybe you can tighten it up a bit.

Thanks, Jim_Lockhart 15:50, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Godo gaisha

Great article! Solid writing, too. :)

One quibble: your English renderings of 定款 and 社員. Isn't a 定款 a document usually called articles of incorporation in English? I'm sure, in your position, you've seen numerous 定款; if not articles of incorporation, what is the equivalent document called in English speaking countries? (I realize that it might be different from country to country, and even state to state in the US; so what is the generic term?) And—please correct me if I'm wrong—but isn't the generic equivalent of 社員 called partner or founding partner in English?

In translating Japanese terms, I personally tend to avoid looking too hard at the constituent kanji used to express them and try to look for a functional equivalent that will ring a bell with the English reader. Though operating agreement for 定款 is probably defensible in certain contexts (e.g., when you're explaining what a 定款 is), I have some doubts about using it as a functional equivalent, especially when operating agreement can mean something else in English. Further, I think member is misleading as a translation of 社員, unless it is used in English as a term of art meaning the same thing.

Apologies if this sound pedantic, but I hope it'll help you make a great article even better. Best regards, Jim_Lockhart 13:10, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

I'd especially like help making sure I correctly translated the legalese part of the Japanese article. [edit] Anti Japanese sentiment

I can't believe that you think that "I just think a lot of the anti-Japanese sentiment in Asia (and a lot of the anti-Asian sentiment in Japan) is unfounded or at least very exaggerated."

Maybe its because you are in Japan, but I don't think you know anything about Japanese war crimes from the medieval ages all the way to WWII.

Read cruelties of Japanese soldiers during the Imjin War (1592-1597). Japanese soldiers raped, kidnapped, pillaged, looted, and burned buildings, people, women, men, even dogs.

You have no idea how Korean or Chinese people feel today because of Japanese crimes.

Take a look at the Rape of Nanking. Historians think at least 300,000 Chinese civilians were killed, raped, or kidnapped!

Read about the Unit 731. Unite 731 was a secret medical unit during WWII. Vivisections were perfomed. Japanese scientists put animal blood into humans (notably Russian POWs, Chinese, Koreans, and Mongolians. They put humans into extreme conditions (freezing them), and blew them up with various weapons (such as flamethrowers or bombs)

Japanese soldiers had contests between captains to see which one would kill 100 Chinese people first.

Looting was at a very large scale and the Japanese goverment did nothing to prevent it.

Is it because you are in Japan and think it is a great country? Of course it is a great country. Japan is a world power today.

But consider the Japanese crimes. Consider why you think that the "anti-Japanese sentiment is exaggerated" Its just ridiculous how so many people do not know the true horrors behind Japan. Good friend100 00:34, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Roppongi

Your edit to Roppongi#History left a non-sentence:

"Although the area was trafficked for centuries and served as the site of the cremation of Shogun Tokugawa Hidetada's wife in 1626, [1]"

I cannot determine from the edit history what the second clause of the sentence should be. Also, what does "trafficked" mean in reference to a place? Do you mean there was much traffic through the area? Your edit also removes some seemingly relevant and interesting information:

"Roppongi was a simple crossing of two streets until after the Meiji Restoration when it became a quartering area for the Imperial Japanese Army."
