[edit] Barnstar
I think you deserve a barnstar for you patience in handling round after round of Corn vs. Maize debates. I'm not sure that I would have had the stamina. I'm sure there are many other reasons why you would deserve additional barnstars too (such as for your many contributions to the Maize article itself), but I will leave that to others. -- Solipsist 11:22, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of Testudines families
Thanks for helping out with the article, but I don't like the seperation of the table. It stuffs up their widths at my resolution. I also don't see an advantage to it, so it seems like it has been worsened aethsetically for no gain. What was the reason for the change? Thanks --liquidGhoul 22:39, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- The 2nd table is about 4 cm wider than the first table. It is caused by the common names of the families. Podocnemididae has a long common name, and so it takes up as much room as possible. The first table has none with long names, so it doesn't take up the max. amount of room. --liquidGhoul 23:30, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- I made a small table code change. Does this solve the width problem? Rmhermen 23:51, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Lists of Words
There's a discussion going on at Wikipedia_talk:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Lists of Words over the interpretation of policy regarding lists of words. As a fairly recent contributor to [List of British words not widely used in the United States], you might wish to add to the debate, as it affects several AfDs going on, and a current Deletion Review. Thanks. WLD 21:09, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fleagle Gang Article
Rmhermen:
You asked if I (Marklemagne) had the authority to reproduce the content on the Fleagle Gang which also appears on http://markgribben.com.
I am the author of that piece and the sole operator of markgribben.com, so I believe that I can reproduce it according to the terms I saw on the Wikipedia: Copyrights page. I don't know much about copyright law, so I don't know if I created some kind of problem because of the Creative Commons license on my personal website and the GFDL. As far as I, as the author and grantor of the CC rights, I'm only too happy to allow Wikipedia to do with that article as the community sees fit.
I added the Fleagle Gang article not to drive traffic to my website, but because I stumbled across a user's request for articles on certain criminals and I happened to know a bit about the gang.
I hope this clarifies the situation. If my article remains on the Wikipedia site, should we add something to ensure other users are not vexed by this same question?
Thank you,
Mark Gribben
- I left a message to this effect on the the article's talk page. Rmhermen 03:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chad
Hi, I saw your comment on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chad. While I have no map of Ade, Chad, you may want to ask User:Aldux. Thanks for starting the page. If you're really into Chad, please join the WikiProject. Thanks, Tchadienne 19:28, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- I am working on maps for Chad now. Rmhermen 03:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Templates:
- Template:Agricultural production box looks alright, and I doubt it can be further streamlined besides removing the extra table line. If it'syour first time dealing with optional parameters, I tip my hat to you. I'd consider making the footer in a smaller font, and maybe parametering it (with the current content as a default) so that people can use other sources.
- Template:City locator is unnecessary: look at Template:Superimpose (documentation on Template talk:Superimpose). If you want, I can speedy your creation.
Circeus 01:21, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for that link. I redesigned my template to include both the locator dot and the city name. It seems to work now. Rmhermen 03:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Help with GJRFMorelligu
Hello, Rmhermen. I am currently having trouble with User:GJRFMorelligu. I have tagged many of his images with {{PUIdisputed}}, and listed the images at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. Instead of visiting that page to justify his various claims that the images are indeed released under the GFDL, or are in the public domain, or whatever, he is removing the {{PUIdisputed}} tags from the image description pages. I have asked him several times to stop; first at User talk:GJRFMorelligu#Images you have uploaded, then in my edit summaries to restore the tags, then in comments above and below the tags themselves, then at User talk:GJRFMorelligu#DO NOT REMOVE PUIdisputed TAGS, and then in big bilingual comments, but he seems to have ignored me (see, for example, [1]).
A similar thing usually happens when I tag any of his images with {{no source}} or {{no license}}. He always removes these tags. Sometimes he provides useful source information, but often he just changes to a different random copyright tag with no explanation (see, for example, [2]). I have added {{fair use disputed}} tags to some of his images, but these are invariably deleted as well.
I believe that many of the images he has uploaded have very inadequate source information and probably false licensing information. I am coming to you for help because I know that you have dealt with this user before (your name pops up in most of the image histories). Advice would be appreciated. —Bkell (talk) 02:09, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- I had hoped that user was improving. I left a message at the Admin Noticeboard, perhaps someone else will have more luck discussing this with the user. Rmhermen 03:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] BOT - Regarding your recent protection of Schabir Shaik trial:
You recently protected[3] this page but did not give a protection summary. If this is an actual (not deleted) article, talk, or project page, make sure that it is listed on WP:PP. VoABot will automatically list such protected pages only if there is a summary. Do not remove this notice until a day or so, otherwise it may get reposted. Thanks. VoABot 19:02, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Misrad-1 note
I saw the note on the Misrad-1 usage that you posted on the UAV article. As I'm slowly reworking much of the UAV content on WP, I'm interested in more on this usage. I'll eventually be writing an article on the Misrad-1, and this would be a good item to include. Can you point me to an external like that would be a good source, and which would provide additional details of Hezboallah's usage? Thanks! Akradecki 20:31, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Many thanks!Akradecki 00:23, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Article is up at
Misrad-1Mirsad-1 (ya got me doing the dislexic thing, too!). Someone else already wrote a stub on the Mheger 4, and since there is some reports that the Misrad might not be a Mheger, I decided to do a seperate article for the type. I'll also be researching and expanding the Mheger article. Thanks again for the assistance! Akradecki 03:21, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Chad: towns & cities
Thanks for your interest in these places. I don't think either Aozou or Ade would qualify as a "city". Neither is much more than a dot on the map and, in these thinly populated regions, where most of the population is nomadic (or at least semi-nomadic) the population fluctuates with the seasons, migration patterns and other factors, such as the state of security in the surrounding area. What both have is some sort of water supply, so, in times of crisis, people are likely to congregate there. Getting up-to-date, verifiable, info. on these places isn't easy, though. [edit] Michigan State Forests
I am not sure where or how best to put this link. If I put it on here you can place it correctly, right? This search page comes back with State Parks, Forests and rec. areas. http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/

[edit] GJRFMorelligu possibly evading block
Hello again, Rmhermen. I just thought I'd let you know about User:Caracas 2000, who appears to be User:GJRFMorelligu by a different name (probably to evade his 237-day block). Caracas' edits have popped up on some of the images that Morelligu uploaded and that I'm watching; so far I haven't seen anything as bad as Morelligu's blatant copyvios, but Caracas seems to have the same level of English proficiency as Morelligu and a rather poor grasp of the concept of fair use, and there are edits like this that make me think that Caracas is Morelligu reincarnated (notice that Caracas refers to himself as the provider of that image).
I'm posting this here because I'm not sure about the correct procedure for reporting things like this. The relevant talk on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard has been archived, and I'm not sure I have strong enough evidence to post on Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets. Please let me know if I should do something else about this. —Bkell (talk) 04:06, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for the correction
Thanks Rmhermen for that correction, because that was my mistake, now i solved it.
Thanks
- Thanks for correcting it. I believe it is all correct now as a fair use image. Rmhermen 16:16, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hello Rmhermen
I see that the user Bkell, says that i´m a user called Morelligu, and his proves are that i put something in a image of Fredy Reyna, i´m new in this of Wikipedia, and i enter to this encyclopedia because i see many articles about venezuela, i want to contribute, now i´m doing that, tryng to solve the images and making new articles.
Thanks

It's polite to wait till someone finishes this explanation on the Talk page when they ask in good faith that you see the talk page before making changes. There is valid reasons regarding the integrity of the Encyclopedia. You should view all angles before just assuming that your view is correct. Agne 20:04, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- I did check the talk page first. There was nothing there. You comment posted eight minutes after you revert a change for which you had not tried to get any consensus. Please discussion changes before you continue to revert when you face disagreement/opposition/differing opinion. The onus is on you if you are trying to change the article. [edit] Invite to join WP:Wine
While we've shared disagreement in the past over Midwest, I nonetheless have noticed and been impressed with your work on several wine articles on Wikipedia. I would love if you would considering joining the Wikipedia Wine Project. I think you could offer considerable value to the project and I would look forward to working with you on friendlier grounds and maybe sharing a glass or two? :) Agne 02:50, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vegetable oils rename discussion
Just wanted to say that I appreciate the general even-headedness with which you're participating in the discussion over renaming Vegetable oils. Even though the other participants (so far, at least) don't agree with you, you're doing a good job of reasoning it out, in preference to other, more common, and much less pleasant ways of reaching consensus. Good job! Waitak 15:21, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry... all of the responses to your request for renaming the vegetable oils page were oppose. You can't just summarily do the rename without following up on the discussion, because you disagreed with the feedback that you asked for. There were concrete proposals and questions there that you have yet to respond to. Please follow due process, okay? Waitak 10:31, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

- I hadn't noticed that Plant oils had been created - it wasn't noted in the talk page. I'll retract my objection to the redirect and reinstate it. On reflection, I'm not sure that there's an ideal solution, but I can live with this one. Waitak 10:38, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
I'd love for you to weigh in on the discussion at Talk:Vegetable fats and oils before we reach a conclusion. You have had some strong opinions on the subject, and we're getting close to a consensus on how to reorganize. Now's the time to speak up, if you'd like to. Waitak 08:58, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Larrys Creek
Thanks for your support of Larrys Creek's FAC. I appreciate it very much. If the color orange is still not showing up well, please say so. Do you think it would be better just to call it brown or tan? Anyway, thanks again, Ruhrfisch 20:48, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- You could hardly call it anything but orange atr full size. It is just at thumb size it appears to be brownish. I think we had best leave it called orange. Rmhermen 03:03, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have also noticed it looks different on different computer screens, but Kmusser's fix seems to have helped it some - ah technology. Thanks again, Ruhrfisch 20:44, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks again for your support and comments - Larrys Creek made featured article today! Take care, Ruhrfisch 03:22, 31 August 2006 (UTC) |

[edit] Voyager 1
Copied from Leon7:
You added the statement that Voyager 1 would be the farthest object until 2070. I cannot find any spacecraft that will pass it at any date. Rmhermen 18:57, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- I made the assumption that New Horizons would hold its speed, which is currently 4.956 AU/year relative to the Sun (vs. 3.615 for Voyeger 1), which was probably wrong of me to do. I don't know how much NASA expects NH to slow down or speed up. But the year 2070 came from a simple calculation of the difference between the 2 speeds. Do you have any more info on the projected velocity of NH as it leaves the solar system? Thanks for catching this error. Leon7 19:26, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] How can you edit
How can you edit the template of the Presidents of Venezuela, because the real name is Andrés Narvarte, not Navarte, can you change that.
Caracas 2000 00:47, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Go to an page which uses it and hit edit. Below the edit box will be a list of links to all the templates used. Go to the correct one and edit it. However, I don't see why Navarte should be changed. The only names in Template:Presidents of Venezuela with more than the last name are names which need disambiguation and they only have the first initial. Rmhermen 00:55, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hello Rmhermen
I have a question, what tag can i put in a photo of the National Geographic Magazine, of August, 1976.
Caracas 2000 15:18, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- A photo of that date is certainly still copyrighted. It might be possible to use it as a WP:Fair use image but the requirements are strict. Rmhermen 16:20, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bellaire, Texas

[edit] Elimination of External Links
I noticed that you changed a number of the external links in the article White Mountain art. Although I have a number of images in the article, there were references to other images that I linked to images of these paintings on White Mountain Art & Artists. IMO, thses images greatly help the article, allowing the user to see the paintings I have referred to. Can you explain why you eliminated these exterenal links? I'd like to put them back, but I wanted to "talk" about the issues first. Thanks. JJ 11:56, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Several points: that page is already linked in the external links page; there is no reason to link those pictures we already have images of on Wikipedia; external links do not belong in image captions; excess linkage to singular site gives appearance of link spam. All in all, we don't need the links - we either have the images or could and our text should give the explanation. Rmhermen 13:05, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- In the section titled Benjamin Champney and the allure of North Conway, I refer to two paintings, neither of which I had space to include in the article. Their titles are Mount Washington from Sunset Hill and Artists sketching the the White Mountains. You removed the links to images of these paintings. I don't consider this link spam; it enhances the user experience to be able to view these paintings. Can you explain why I should not link to images of these paintings? Also, I was already taken to task for the Characteristics of the Artists gallery for having so many images. But, no one could suggest a better presentation. I have many images already, and I don't feel that more images could be well presented. JJ 21:33, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- I uploaded the Mount Washington image and created a link to it on Wikipedia. The second image mentioned may be a good addition to the article as it fits well with the first artist colony statement. The text of the section may need to be expanded to support that many images though. Rmhermen 21:55, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Azerbaijan-Khojali.png
You left me a note on commons about this. The pale green area is Nagorno-Karabakh, a self-proclaimed but de facto independent republic within Azerbaijan. I figured the most neutral situation was to include it but color it differently. So the rayons that are part of N-K are dark green. I made these maps before I got the bright idea to actually explain my maps in the image file, rather than letting the article define them, so I'll eventually get back to that and explain that.
Even more complex is Image:Azerbaijan-Kalbajar.png, where the rayon is only halfway in N-K. --Golbez 10:05, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Licensing
You added a license statement to the Champney image that is too broad. Champney died in 1907, so, technically, he has not been dead for 100 years. Unfortunately, this is true for other images, such as those of Thomas Hill paintings, since he died in 1908. How should this be handled and/or corrected? These images are in the Public Domain in the US. JJ 13:17, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Found it. That tag was originally written as life-plus-70 but later one country in the world, Mexico, was found which uses life-plus-100 (since 2003). I found an alternate tag: Template:PD-art-life-70. Rmhermen 13:42, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Map for Migration Period?
I notice your request for an English language map for the Migration Period article. I would like to try to tackle that. Is there anything I should know before starting? I presume the data on the present map is (reasonably) correct? I would appreciate any additional instructions. Thank you, MapMaster 19:57, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- I don't see any notable problems with the lines. I do see a readability problem with some of the text colors (mainly where the browns overlap the blues). I think all of the terms are translated on the English Wiki page. Good luck. Rmhermen 20:10, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- I have uploaded my first go at the map. I will add dates and some names to the map itself later today or so, but I first wanted to see how it looked on the page (e.g. is the text readable, etc) before further. FYI, MapMaster 18:33, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sources for removing unsupported claims
I find idea of taking time and providing sources information to back up removing rumors or someones original researches totally insane. I believe the guy who introduce information into article should be the one who have to back his edit. And I would bet most will agree with me. So please stop vandalizing wiki. [edit] Native Americans in the United States
I don't care whether that box is there, but it seems weird the box links to that page and we don't include it, so if you don't think it's a history article then you might want to inform the makers of that box so they can remove that link. --plange 21:13, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ummm.
You reverted my edits (including some which were not in any way contentious). What process, exactly, leads you to do that? There is no wikipedia requirement that I discuss edits before I do them, and I do not believe that my edits can be construed as vandalism in any way.
There is a very clear distinction between spaceflight and space exploration, and the wikipedia (as you have reverted it) significantly confuses the two.WolfKeeper 20:47, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- You made major undiscussed changes and marked them as minor. This in itself can be contrued as vandalism. You also removed important parts of the the space exploration article which are necessary to show the development of space exploration. Rmhermen 20:53, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- Want to bet? I didn't remove, I only moved them within the wikipedia, and to an article that a redirect said was the same thing. On the other hand, you have just removed an entire multipage article, for apparently no good reason. Do you have any reason that I shouldn't revert atleast spaceflight?WolfKeeper 21:29, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] The Henry Ford may not in the city (...
Sorry Rmhermen,
I didn't agree with you removing the Henry Ford passage from the Detroit article. While you are correct it is not in the city (by about 3 miles), I feel that it is worth mentioning in the article. I think that there are other things that are not in the city that could be removed first, i.e. the Somerset Collection and Great Lakes crossing mall passages. Regards, MJCdetroit 02:30, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
P.S. I see that just reverted my edit. If you feel this strongly about this perhaps we should discuss this on Detroit's talk page first. MJCdetroit 02:33, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Soft Drink Image
I saw your request on requested pictures; I fulfilled it with a can and glass of lemonade. However seeing the talk page i notice you might want one of soft drinks on shelves - if so, would you like me to replace the current one or just add a new image to the article? please let me know on my talk :) SMC 03:19, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Regional park
I note that you are reverting my edits on Regional park. I removed the references to Metropark because I could find no justification for the link between the two. Do you know of a connection? We don't get that many questions in Mathematics and Language, which is why they haven't been split. We do get a huge number of questions in Science and Miscellaneous, and to a certain degree Humanities, which is why we have thought to split those. I guess it depends on how smoothly you can browse and reload the Science desk with your computer; it's a pain on mine, and my computer isn't even that shabby. Thanks for your input. freshofftheufoΓΛĿЌ 00:08, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I need an expert/authority in: "...inexpensive portable medical X-ray device, or build-your-own kits."
Saturday, 10-14-06; Portland,OR; 2:06pm West Coast Pacific Time
The replies to my above post don't include construction plans for an X-ray scanner device (such as those used in airports and federal installations) designed for medical use.
First off, I'm seriously pressed for time here. Saturday is my work day, so I'm presently preoccupied with that. second, User talk:Rmhermen, you are strictly a Wiki Administrator - correct? I wish to know why Authors of these Wikipedia Encyclopedia entries don't sign their signatures on them, such as for example, the entry "X-ray"? It's very difficult for someone like me who's pressed for time to have to spend my time searching for these Authors when instead I should be spending my time posing questions to these Authors; aren't most of these Authors experts or auhtorities themselves on these encyclopedia entries? How much control do you, as a Wiki-Administrator, actually have over these Author signatures?
Now then, in what little time I have left, for my question (I wish I were a speed typist); Can you please pass this on to the Author of "X-ray" Encyclopedia entry?; I'm searching for an inexpensive portable X-ray device for personal medical use; or would it be more cost effective for me to build my own X-ray device from scratch, or from a mail-order-kit, both of which I could include radiation protection features in their design? If I had my own personal x-ray device, then I could save myself the travel time and waiting time for a physician's appointment. I widh to operate my personal medical X-ray device to take images, myself, of the physical conditon of my own internal anatomy - I'm age 45 (specifically my bones, vertabrae, ligaments, cartilage, and spinal discs.).
Please read my original post ( i'm getting ready for work now!). --MyPresentCPUisTooSlow 21:57, 14 October 2006 (UTC)MyPresentCPUisTooSlow
- Signing articles is against our policies. Many people contribute to each and every article. These authors can be found by pressing the history tab. Many of these will be experts in grammar, not x-rays. However, I can tell you that you that airport x-ray machines are not medical x-ray machines and even if you had the skill to construct an appropriate one, you would still need the skills to correctly take the image and to correctly interpret the image. This is normally the work of three different kinds of trained specialists. X-ray machines may need to be licensed and you may need to be licensed to operate it. Altogether it is a considerable danger and you are better off not. Rmhermen 23:27, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:RJBurkhart/User:RJBurkhart3
Do you know what he's up to? I can't quite make sense of his edits. See WP:AN#What's going on here?: if you know something about this guy, your input would be very welcome. (I ask because I see at User talk:RJBurkhart that you've interacted with this person already in February 2006.) Thanks for any insights you can offer. Lupo 12:16, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Nord-Brabant"
Thanks for adding a pronounciation for "Heusden" and other Noord-Brabant places. Dutch roots, in any way? By the way, you might want to change "Nord-Brabant" to the correct "Noord-Brabant".
Peter Klaren
- Yes, I had great-grandparents from Groningen. I'll check Noord-Brabant. Rmhermen 15:57, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. Nordbrabant is the German spelling (the second language I formerly formally studied.) Rmhermen 16:00, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] References
You have made a couple of edits which claim to add columns to the reference section. I can't see any difference. Does this only work on some systems? Rmhermen 18:01, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, take a look at today's featured article, Slate industry in Wales; The same code exists in it's references section. It's pretty common among the featured articles as we can't use the col-start, col-break and col-end on the collected references. Technically, it's code from CSS3. It'll display in Firefox, but not Internet Explorer. --Brad Beattie (talk) 23:20, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, eventually they will upgrade IE to run Wikipedia properly (At least we can hope) Rmhermen 16:28, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article survey statistics
I noticed your article survey on your userpage and thought it might be interesting to repeat the experiment. My 250-article sample is obviously tiny, but what's overrepresented and what's underrepresented is not terribly surprising. We do seem to have made some progress on the history articles compared to your original data, but apparently 14% of all knowledge is about TV, movies, bands, and games. Ah well. [edit] Dalbury's RfA
My RfA passed with a tally of 71/1/0. Thank you very much for your support. I hope that my performance as an admin will not disappoint you. Please let me know if you see me doing anything inappropriate. -- Donald Albury 10:35, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] V-2 rocket
As evidenced by my comment on Talk:V-2 rocket, I have read the lead, hence there was no reason to repeat your advice. I am asking for date, and it turns out from sources available for me now (Astronautix, etc.), that neither exact date nor circumstances of 189 km launch are known. Such rocket is reported to may have been launched somewhere in the early 1944, according to few accounts. But once again - nothing is clear. If you are able to provide exact date and circumstances, you are welcome, with a verifiable reference, of course. Cmapm 17:12, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
