Nudity in The Simpsons

Although the animated television series The Simpsons has been described as a "children's cartoon" and even placed first in the 100 Greatest Kids' TV shows list, the program also has a mature dimension. Sex is a common theme, and full, non-frontal nudity has been depicted (Though it should be noted that most sex scenes on the Simpsons are in the dark or hidden, and are referred to as 'snuggling'. Whenever the word 'sex' is used it is usually shown as being sick, or revolting). Nudity in The Simpsons is celebrated outright in the episode "The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular," and producer David Mirkin once quipped that a Simpsons film should portray Bart losing his virginity. Simpsons nudity is either meant to be only funny, as is the case with Bart, or also appealing, as is the case with Marge. In at least one case the nudity has been controversial, as fans argued whether certain scenes are tastelessly pornographic or merely erotic. [2]. A different perspective is provided in the episode "Brush with Greatness," in which Marge paints Mr. Burns in the nude. As Marge explains, nudity can be humanizing, capturing frailty even in otherwise evil individuals. As a critic replies, "He's bad, but he'll die. So I like it."

- In "The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular," a large portion of Homer and Marge's nude bodies are seen when they are about to have sex.
- Homer is nude inside an abandoned church in "Treehouse of Horror VIII."
- Child Homer dances nude in Woodstock in flashbacks in "D'oh-in In the Wind". Later this episode, there is a mural of child Homer naked, and Homer later sits naked in the front garden.
- Homer is nude at the zoo in "Homer vs. Dignity."
- Homer takes off his clothes in "Three Gays of the Condo."
- Homer is nude at the power plant in "Treehouse of Horror XIV."
- Homer and Marge are seen about to have or having sex in over 50 episodes. They are obviously naked in all of them.
- In Thank God it's Doomsday, Homer is seen nude when he is transported to heaven.
- In The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace, in an attempt to copy Thomas Edison, Homer throws his pyjamas out the window. He then stands nude in front of the window.
- In a commercial for French washing detergent Vizir, Homer covers his genitals with his hands as he runs away.

- According to The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family, sleeping in the nude can be considered one of Marge's "quirks." She has done so in "One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish," "Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk," "Bart the Lover," "Colonel Homer," "Kamp Krusty," "Bart's Inner Child," "The Boy Who Knew Too Much," and "Secrets of a Successful Marriage."
- In "Homer Alone," Marge takes off her clothes for a professional massage, and is also seen relaxing in the bathtub.
- In "Kamp Krusty," Homer and Marge shower together, and they (try to) bathe together in "Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy."
- Bart catches Marge and Homer having sex in "Lisa's First Word" and later catches them nude and about to have sex in "Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy."
- Chief Wiggum, Lou, and Eddie spied on Marge and Homer skinny dipping in "Bart of Darkness."
- Homer and Marge have sex in "And Maggie Makes Three"; Homer later re-enacts the fertilisation.
- Marge showers in "Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious" and bathes in "C.E. D'oh."
- In "Natural Born Kissers," Homer and Marge have sex in a stranger's barn, at a miniature golf course, and at a hotel where the maid sees them; and they run through Springfield in the nude. This is the first time Marge's buttocks are seen, and for a very brief moment her breasts are seen in the hot-air balloon. After the balloon lands in the stadium, one of her breasts is seen for one frame, but from a distance and not in detail.
- Marge and Homer are portrayed as Adam and Eve in "Simpsons Bible Stories." Leaves cover their genitals and Marge's breasts are covered by her hair.
- In "A Hunka Hunka Burns in Love," Marge and Homer are seen after having sex, Homer having taken an aphrodisiac prior to the encounter. They orgasmed so loudly that Bart, Lisa, and even Ned Flanders next door heard it.
- In "Large Marge," Marge shows her breasts in public.
- In Some Enchanted Evening Marge wears a blue see-through dress before having sex.
- At the end of The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular, Homer and Marge are nude in bed and the very last shot is their bodies interlocking before sex.
- In The Monkey Suit Marge reads Lisa's book in the shower.

- In "The Telltale Head", Bart takes off his clothes after coming home from church.
- Bart bares his buttocks, thinking he is about to receive corporal punishment, in "One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish" and "Itchy and Scratchy: The Movie."
- Bart bathes in "New Kid on the Block"
- Bart, at around the age of 9 months in "Lisa's First Word," hangs naked from a clothesline.
- Home video of a nude baby Bart is shown in "Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song".
- Bart makes his buttocks look like Richard Nixon in "I Love Lisa," and like a doctor in "'Round Springfield."
- In "Bart vs. Australia," Bart writes "Don't tread on me" on his buttocks and shows it to the Australian prime minister.
- In "They Saved Lisa's Brain," Bart is nude atop a running pig. Later, the pig rides a still nude Bart.
- Bart is photographed mooning a camera in "Simpsons Tall Tales."
- A donkey eats Bart's shorts in "Bart-Mangled Banner".
- In the music video for Deep Deep Trouble, Bart is naked, covered only by his walkman.
- On the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, issue 910, Bart swims naked, mimicking Nirvana's Nevermind album. When the magazine is opened, the image appears again, but this time Bart's penis can be seen.
- Bart appears entirely nude in a commercial for French washing detergent Vizir, when the clothesline he's hiding behind snaps. Note that this is the only ever instance of genitals being drawn in detail on a character.

Bart Simpson's Guide to Life is a book which features many instances of Bart nude.
- The front and back pages show multiple images of Bart nude, covered by either objects or himself.
- He is nude for the "s.e.x." chapter's title page, covered by a black box.
- Bart, Burns and Barney stand nude whilst Bart poses the question "Wouldn't the world be a happier place if everyone would just strut around nude?"

- Smithers imagines Burns popping out of a birthday cake, presumably nude, in "Rosebud".
- In "Burns' Heir" and "Weekend at Burnsie's" he nearly dies in the bathtub.
- Smithers' screensaver is of a naked Burns, who says, "Hello, Smithers. You're quite good at turning me on," in "Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy".

- In The Last Temptation of Homer, they are seen as naked angels.

- In an episode, they are in Sweden and there is a woman directing traffic wearing nothing but a hat. Her butt is seen from behind*

At the conclusion of the episode host Troy McClure presents a montage of what the viewers, in his own words, "all came here to see: hardcore nudity!". The montage is a series of clips featuring nudity featured on the show by various characters, including an outtake from "Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy" in which Marge is seen almost nude (Matt Groening reveals this to be an animation mistake in an audio commentary).
KC and the Sunshine Band's Shake Your Booty is also playing over the credits.
