[edit] Invitation and Recommendations for writing articles on Hindi Wikipedia
Hindi wikipedia invites and welcomes Wikipedians to contribute for the cause of spreading knowledge and the Hindi language. This page contains guidelines for writing a wiki-article on any topic at the Hindi Wikipedia, with special recommendations for writing in Hindi (Note: The script/font-family for Hindi is Devanāgari; the script/font-system for English is Roman script, also, the Hindi spelling system is not completely standardized). This article is yet in English language (mostly), in order to encourage even non-native/foreign people who have learnt/are learning Hindi to contribute to the Hindi wikipedia, and native Hindi speakers who normally write in English. The examples given below are only for explanation. Recommendations:
For more information/suggestions/criticisms, please contact any one of the administrators of Hindi wiki here, preferably en:User:Magicalsaumy. This page can also be found here.
- Firstly for proper viewing, it is recommended to keep all links NOT-UNDERLINED. Otherwise the मात्रा below the Hindi alphabets might get partly hidden behind the underlines. For this, please go to My Preferences (मेरी पसंद) at the top of the page, then click Misc., and then choose "underline links -> Never". Save your settings. Also, do not click yes for "justify paragraphs", otherwise on some browsers, the devanagari script will appear highly distorted.
- All users are requested and encouraged to contribute articles here, especially, to create new articles on general topics. They are also encouraged to expand the existing articles, and improve upon them. A non-user can also do the same; it is recommended but not required to register yourself as a wikipedian user at the Hindi wikipedia. As far as possible, each article should be written with a Neutral Point of View (NPOV)—no nationalistic or partiality or hatred based articles are welcome. The articles should be based on facts—and appropriate references should be provided as and where needed. See the English wiki's help page for editing in general. Almost all the general wiki-features are available for editing on Hindi wiki too. Guidelines for the content matter is mostly the same as given in English wiki.
- Since the Hindi wiki is at its initial stages, users are welcome to take introduction and basic points from the English (or another) wikipedia's corresponding article and translate them for small articles. An in-page link to the English wiki's article will be deemed sufficient for references (a template might be created stating this). For longer articles, it is recommended to mention the references separately.
- Since most computer users in India and elsewhere have the standard Western-type keyboard, it is best recommended (but not necessarily required) to use the virtual (software) keyboard like the one of Hindimozhi or of ISIS (Tavultesoft Keyman)—which are freewares. These are advantageous because the contemporary Hindi-speakers in India often write messages/chat using Hindi words but written in Roman (English) script, and the layout of these keyboards is quite the same that such people use. For example, using the "normal" keyboard with this software, typing ga would give ग and ghaa would give घा.
- Create the article with its name written in Hindi (devanagari script). Always take care to include the nukta (dot below) for foreign / Urdu loanwords wherever it occurs in the standard spelling. For non-Indian names, use that spelling (for article name and other words) which is commonly encountered in Hindi newspapers, G.K.-books, Hindi-dubbed TV documentaries and Hollywood films and magazines. e.g., America-अमरीका (या अमेरिका), China-चीन, French-फ़्रांसिसी. For English acronyms/short-forms, use the initials in Roman script, and again create a full form in Hindi and redirect it to the short form. e.g. IPA (अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय ध्वनि वर्णाक्षर); UNO (संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ). Doing the opposite is also fine. But creating the article with the Hindi short form, as सं०रा०सं०, is not recommended. Also, the article proper must be written with the proper nukta, as फ़ारसी, and then, a non-nukta (mis-)spelt version फारसी should preferably be created to redirect to the correct spelling.
- Hindi wikipedia strongly recommends the users to write articles in everyday common Hindi in the खड़ीबोली dialect (Hindustani or Hindi-Urdu, i.e., बोलचाल वाली हिन्दी, which may include many loanwords from Persian and Arabic). The use of शुद्ध संस्कृतनिष्ठ हिन्दी is in general neither required nor recommended. E.g., use: वजह instead of कारण, ख़ास instead of विशेष, वगैरह instead of इत्यादि, लेकिन instead of परन्तु etc. However, for technical and specialized vocabulary, the use of शुद्ध संस्कृतनिष्ठ हिन्दी is recommended and usually mandatory. Thus: upper House of Parliament—संसद का उच्च सदन, but not Urdu—मजिलिस का ऐवान-ए-बाला ; Foreign Minister—विदेशमन्त्री, but not Urdu—वज़ीर-ए-ख़ारिजा ; knowledge/science—ज्ञान/विज्ञान, but not इल्म. Use spoken Hindi's ये and वो instead of यह and वह / वे. Do not use the title of respect जी after names, it is unencyclopedic. Thus: कृष्ण / श्री कृष्ण but not कृष्ण जी. Use the आप form and its corresponding 3rd person verbal conjugation for writing about respectable persons. Thus: श्री वाजपेयी मध्य प्रदेश में जन्मे थे. But not: वाजपेयी मध्य प्रदेश में जन्मा था. But do not use the pronoun "आप" itself in-text in biographies.
- English should be used sparingly, only when required; i.e., if the corresponding शुद्ध हिन्दी word is too "difficult and not generally encountered", or if it is a proper name of non-Indian person/place/terminology/title, or if the user is highly unsure of the proper translation. It is recommended (but not required) for English-to-Hindi translation while writing articles, the Shabdkosh online dictionary should be used. For each English word, that alternative should be used which is generally encountered in everyday spoken Hindi, and also fits well into the context. Use of intelligent guesses for newly encountered words is also allowed, and so are translations encountered in Hindi-dubbed TV documentaries, Hollywood films, Hindi-translated books, etc. e.g., दमपिशाच for en:Dementor (used in dubbed HP films).
- If used, it is recommended to use the English words within the articles using the English (Roman) alphabets rather than devanagari (or better, the devanagari transliteration should be used in the sentence, followed by the English word in Roman alphabet in parentheses). Such words should be italicized and not put in quotation marks. Preferably, there should be an in-page interwiki link (like :en:) on the word to the English wikipedia. If the word comes as an integral part of a sentence, so as not to break the continuity, the en: prefix should be hidden by writing the word again after the pipe sign (piped link). Thus, recommended:
Whence,
- Always start the first 1 or 2 lines of the article giving its definition (from any standard dictionary/other wiki) or suitable introduction. (translated from Eng. Webster's New World Dictionary).
- For names of countries, cities, places, languages, people, books, films, technical vocabulary, mythology, etc, start the article like this:
- 1.
The name in bold (अपोलो)
- 2.
starting parenthesis, then English name in Roman script, in-page interwiki-linked to English wiki ff. by semicolon ((अंग्रेज़ी : :en:Apollo;)
- 3.
The native name(s) if applicable in the italicized native script, preferably followed either by its italicized approximate Hindi pronunciation or non-italicized
phonological transcriptionwithin / /, ff. by closed parenthesis (यूनानी : Aπollων अपोल्लोन))
- 4.
the rest of the definition or introduction (प्राचीन यूनानी धर्म (ग्रीक धर्म) और प्राचीन रोमन धर्म के सर्वोच्च देवता थे ।)
For country names, only the standard short form of the name is needed in the first line. If there is a common name for a difficult word in Hindustani, also mention it. If you don't give the interwiki English/another language link (which would be deemed to be the default reference), then you MUST provide an appropriate reference.- Please leave no article without an appropriate category. See the list of created categories here; you can also make a new category (pref. in Hindi). Please leave no article without at least ONE off page (like en:) interwiki link. E.g., the user can check the article name (say Apollo) on the finally redirected English page and append to the Hindi article (
en:Appolo)
). These interlanguage links will help a bot to update all interwiki links for that article in all wikipedias. The category and the aforementioned link should be typed at the end of the article. If the article is very small, mention it as a stub/substub.- Use of templates is welcome. See the list of templates here. If creating a template, name it pref. in Hindi.
- Use पूर्णविराम ( । ) instead of a period (.) for ending statements. The पूर्णविराम, semicolon, colon and dash (but not comma) must come after one space after the word to prevent ambiguity. Use the international form of the Hindu-Arabic numerals (1,2,3 instead of १,२,३), as used by the Constitution and the Government of India (even for Hindi). There is no need to use the हलन्त at the end of Sanskrit words wherever it occurs. Hence, prefer: संसद over संसद्; अथर्वन over अथर्वन्. Use the proper quotation marks “” from the Insert toolbox, not "". Write dates as 2 मई 2006 (ईसवी or ईसापूर्व). Write time as 3:45 pm. Separate common suffix-words like शास्त्र, विज्ञान, ज्ञान with a hyphen. Thus: रसायन-शास्त्र. For most others, leave both the words of the noun-cluster free. Combine them into one word only if it is very common to do so. Thus: सामवेद.
- The use of ज़ for the en:voiced alveolar fricative (/z/, as in zoo, rose) is fundamentally wrong. Its nearest counterpart is the en:voiceless alveolar fricative /s/ (as in sea), and not Hindi ज (en:voiced palatal plosive). Hence, it is suggested and recommended that for the sound /z/, whether it comes in English (etc.) spellings (z) for while pronunciation otherwise, should be transcribed as स़ (स with a dot below, available in the Insert toolbox). Hence: Reason रीस़न, not रीज़न ; Roses रोस़ेस़, not रोज़ेज़. But common Hindi words borrowed from Persian/Arabic (so-called Urdu words) are allowed to continue with ज़ spelling. Thus: ज़रा, नज़र, तर्ज़. The en:voiced postalveolar fricative (/ʒ/ as in treasure), inexistent in Hindi, can similarly be transcribed with श़. Thus: treasure ट्रॅश़र. The nukta (dot) available in the Insert toolbox can be combined with various consonants to suggest a more exact phonetic devanagari rendering of foreign sounds. E.g., since phonetically, English Think and this are not equal to थिंक and दिस, a better transcription could be थ़िंक and द़िस. Please take care of the dot below in so-called Urdu words, otherwise the Hindi spelling is deemed incorrect.
- For the following English vowels met, mate, mat, transcribe as मॅट (short vowel), मेट (not मेइट), मैट (not मॅट, as popular in Marathi). However in contemporary Hindi and here, it is acceptable to use ए instead of ऍ. Thus: अमेरिका is more popular than अमॅरिका. For cot, coat, caught, transcribe as कॉट, कोट, कॉट (not कौट). Transcribe English /t/ and /d/ as ट and ड.
- Use half-न before त, थ, द, ध, न, instead of anuswaar अं. Use half-म before प, फ, ब, भ, म. Use the anuswaar before all the rest of the consonants (not half-ङ, ञ, ण). If the मात्रा is not above the alphabet, use chandra-bindu, but only for nasalization. Thus: अन्दर, not अंदर ; अन्त, not अंत ; हिन्दी, not हिंदी ; सम्भव, not संभव ; पंचमी, not पञ्चमी ; अंडा, not अण्डा ; कंठ, not कण्ठ ; लैंड, not लैण्ड ; आँख, not आंख. However, both forms are acceptable in contemporary Hindi as well as here; the prec. are just recommendations.
- When proceded by another vowel, use the pure vowels instead of य (unless the य is clearly articulated while pronouncing). Thus : जाएँ, not जायें (not जावें) ; आएगा, not आयेगा . However, both forms are acceptable in contemporary Hindi as well as here.
- Please pay careful attention to the masculine/feminine gender (and singular/plural) in adjectives and verbs, else the sentence becomes ungrammatical.
Thank you,

[edit] Great/Major Power
-Hello:
About the Great/Major Power status of Italy look at wikipedia Global Power article: "A global power or world power is a term that refers to a country that has overwhelming power over all other nations in the world. Countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Germany, Russia, France, Japan, Italy and India are all major world powers. Many would also regard the European Union as a global power in its own right. A world power usually has a huge population, a strong industrial economy, armed forces capable of extending political influence beyond borders and, preferably, permanent membership in the UN Security Council."
And sorry if you think I was insulting you or something, I just tought you were making a complot against Italy.
ACamposPinho 0:09, 7 June 2006
- I noticed you said some admnistrators are 13/14 years old.I don't think a person of that age is well sourced and have an enough knowledge to be an admnistrator. But if wikipedia accepts them I can't do nothing. There are people of that age with much knowledge but it's a minority.

[edit] GREAT POWER ARTICLE MISTAKES
- I will writte first something you said inthe discussion page of this article regarding Italy:
"Regarding sources. In Rome be like Romans. Where were the sources for Germany, FRance, India, UK, etc? Self-Knowledge. Sources for India? There are over 100 in India as an emerging superpower, all the entries on India on Major power, Great power, Regional power and Superpower were created using the information on that page. PS. this isn't a prompt to pick up 100 sources on Italy... :D Nobleeagle (Talk) 05:04, 30 May 2006 (UTC)"
Self-knowledge? So,you ask me sources for Italy and for the others the answer is self knowledge. Because they are more talked about. My friend, winners writte historyand Italy "lost" WWII. Germany lost too, but since reunification its willing to be in the winners side. Almost all that was written about Italy in anglo-saxon books, specially British ones, can't be taken into account with all trust. Many things are distortioned and before and during the WWII, British media was very anti-italian. After the war, they looked down at Italy as a minor partner, when the economic miracle began and Italy became a Major Industrial Power, they only considered its economy and with a little more respect its political scene, but never with the respect it deserves. Italy has all the attributes, it only needs a strong leader and then you will see. Imagine Italy with a Charles de Gaulle as its guidance!!!! You have the tendence to look down at Italy, because of Anglo-American taughts and then you call India an Emerging Superpower. If Brazil was a potential Major Power, thing it isn't,India is even less. My source is a recent (2003-4) Atlas in which Brazil comes as the first power of the Third World. If this is the case, altought I don't agree totally, where is India. Bellowof course. But I think India is well ahead of Brazil, but considering it Emerging SuperPower? And what about China? Two Emergent SuperPowers that confine with each other?....
100 sources for India? Not very difficult. First of all India as many languages,so books and sources must be translated for the different languages, then its languages are not understand outside India, so must be translated to English, French, Chinese, Russian and so on. Then nowadays people talk much of India, because of its cheap labour and its industrial growth, because of that fact. When the italian economic miracle happened, realpolitik and geostrategy and military counted more than nowadays and perhaps more than economy, so Italy was not so talked, besides the fact of communication being most difficult than now. Now economy rules and communication is light-years ahead, so indeveloped countries we talk more of new emergent economies, as a source of investment. To finish I or anyone could easily find 100 and many more sources for Italy. Even for smaller countries, like Spain, Canada or Australia for ex. For Italy, in their National Libraries there are plenty of sources, then there are italian Institutes like ISTAT, Censis,Ministeries specially of Economy and Finances, Defence, Industry, Enea, Mediobanca's MBRES, Sviluppo Italia national enterprise, Limes magazine, Aeronautica e Difesa and so many others I don't have time and space to writte all. Just to let you know, when you say Self-Knowledge, you mean a little common knowledge of facts, I have Self-Knowledge of Italy in all its dimensions and I really know about this, so why don't you believe in one who really knows?
ACamposPinho 12 June 2006, 2:44
- I don't worry if you don't answer what I writte, but I think its lack of education for a person who wants to be integrated in wikipedia admnistration, not to do it. I think you need me more than I need you.

[edit] EU as a Superpower
Hello there, fancy raising your blood pressure? Then pop along to the Superpowers page and contribute to the whole 'EU as a Superpower' debate :)
Something so blatantly wrong (and still unsourced) really shouldn't stay. However User:Ruber_chiken seems to be arguing that the US is not properly sourced either, so both should stay. In fact he seems to be quite excited by the whole EU thing, I've just noticed that he's made the Regional power page very EU centric.
Best wishes, Xdamrtalk 23:53, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think a Superpower or any kind of Power must be an attribute of a nation-state, EU is not, its almost difficult to define properly today what kindof political entity the EU is, since inside it, there are many levels of integration but isn't a country for sure.
If it would become a Superpower, it would be a supranational Superpower, never a Superpower nation. And if it will integrate more, I think it could have the same fate of USSR or Yugoslavia and some of the countries of these former nations are already in the EU,with others trying to enter, if they breaked up nations more homogeneous, they were all slavic, imagine what could happen to EU.
ACamposPinho 1:58, 14 June 2006
I agree with Campos and the general consensus here that the EU is not a country and therefore not a superpower. If so, then join Canada and Mexico to the US as well since there is a FTA between them but no political unity just like the EU. As I said many times before, the EU is nothing more than a French attempt to regain world prominence by convincing other european countries to join with them to outshine the US. The standard line is we are all european. Of course no one talks about who is leading the orchestra. The French want to recreate the Frankish Empire or Napoleon's Empire, the Germans think they are recreating the Holy Roman Empire, the Italians think it's the reborn Roman Empire, the Greeks think it's a unified Graeco-Roman civilisation, the others are looking for handouts or security, and the English...yes the english. The English or British are there to make sure it doesn't happen.
Also I have an observation to make. It seems that whoever is just below the US is automatically the other superpower. Today it seems to be China since the collapse of the Soviet Union. My opinion is that the US needs the other superpower in order to define itself. It gives a sense of purpose for the US, for its people. If one didn't exist, they would create one. --70.50.99.178 Hadrian 01:26, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well we could do with an alternate POV, feel free to put your views across on the Superpower page.
- Regarding EU just to make you a little note. When you say the French, the Italians, The Greeks or the Germans you mean their governement, their politics, not the peopleor at least the people is not so entusiastic nowadays. Look at the "NON" French people gave to the Constitutional Treaty or Holland's NO. Germany didn't say no because people weren't asked, but there were polls showing after the french NO that more than 80% of German population would say no, even Italy could say no but people wasn't asked too, the British of course would say no whatever the others said or done. Why do you think the proposed British referendum was the last to be made? Because Eurofanatics who wrotte the Treaty taught all countries would vote yes and Britain for a quetion of following the trend would behave equal or if Britain said no, they would make some special conditions for Britain or other traditionally Eurosceptic countries like Denmark or Sweden.
As for the USA you are right, they need a counterpoint in order to exist as as Super or even HyperPower.
ACamposPinho 2:32, 15 June 2006
- The EU if you combine all 25 member states does act a sort of counterweight. Bush had to withdraw from his position in favor of steel tarrifs. In this case the EU acted as one and preassured the US president into revising his policy; thus acting as a counterweight. Obviously the EU isn't a nation and thus can't really be compared to the US but isn't an emerging superpower either, its quite simply unique. Signaturebrendel 17:44, 15 June 2006 (UTC)~
- The EU is a different concept of course and the steel example is only one, look at the proposed merger between GE and Honeywell, EU Comission blocked it. But this only proves that EU is more a economic entity, this examples are not direct action of EU but of one of its bodies, the EU Comission.
ACamposPinho 23:46,15 June 2006
What????The comission, represent the EU.How can you say that they are not direct actions of the EU.I really don't see where you get this one.--Ruber chiken 05:32, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- When did I said the Comission represent the EU? And if I said I wouldn't been totally wrong, what are the principal body of EU- EU Comission, then the ECB,the parliament and council only gaves proposes and thinkings, they don't have a real decision-making power. They are direct actions of the EU, what is EU, a conjugation of bodies, nobody can deny that the Comission is part of EU but it works in coordination but not subbordinated to "EU"- because if that was the case I ask you again, what is EU? The Comission is the policy-maker, of course its action of the EU, I only say of which body, in this case its their principal. For ex: If CIA makes an international action is that action of USA?Is but more properly of CIA, there is always some independence.

[edit] Superpower comrpomise
Hello Nobleeagle, I have proposed the following compromise and was wondering whether or not you'd concur with my proposition: (I have included an exerpt from the discussion page.)
I have re-read all the posts above and come to one interesting conlcusion. It seems that everybody arguing here except, X***, has stated that giving the EU its own section is a good idea. I would be fine with just sperating the EU from China and India but not putting it under Todays superpower. So here's my compromise, the EU gets a seperate section, not under "Today's superpower" but seperate from China and India. Would that be a good compromise? Signaturebrendel 16:57, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- I thought that too, but what would the section be called? Kind-of-halfway-there- Superpowers -- European Union. Trip: The Light Fantastic 17:01, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- I don't like "Quasi-superpower" but simply The EU could work, aye Trip: The Light Fantastic 17:08, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
-
- Let me know whether or not this is a good compromise. This way were arn't listing the EU under today's superpowers but seperate it from China and India, which makes sense as the EU is unique. I think if you, Trip: The Light Fantastic, Ruber chiken and I can agree on this, it would end our dispute and we would have found a statifying compromise. (Just an update Light and Ruber chiken have agreed, so its up to you). Signaturebrendel 17:40, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] regional power
why this source isn't good?[1]--Ruber chiken 06:52, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
on the discusion it is ignored and the tags can't stay,so whats whrog with this refernce--Ruber chiken 07:13, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
ok,how many referces do you whant?+1 from what i'll bring? It's not my fault that allmost all europien contries are in the EU.The north americanregion, don't have many contries.I didn't say to not mentione the more important incide the EU,what make you think that,my initial editing, didn't deleat the contries alredy mencioned,my problem is that the reader,is misled in whats going on in the region. They have given away to much soverenty,to ignore it.Thats what i proposed.that only nation should be included is your POV.--Ruber chiken 07:40, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
I whould like, that the reader understandes, that EU's soft power on it's nabors ,is not miningles.Like it is sujested by the article. With the promess of memebership it forces structural changes on it's nabors. From the poor nabors perspective,EU membership promisses subsedies, human rights, democracy, trade, euro memberchip, free movment of peopol.it's with that in mind that they began negotiations with turkey.I mean this is not conventional power,is unique.Isn't this power that deserves to be mencioned in the article.Well what do you now about the isue.--Ruber chiken 08:34, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My signature (Xdamr)
Thanks for that. It's a pity, I quite liked the oversized X. Do you notice the problem on all pages I sign or was it just on one or two? I ask because it is my habit to insert an empty line between my last paragraph and my signature, I would have expected any alignment problems to be concealed by the empty line.
Xdamrtalk 11:20, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, glad to hear it! I tried looking at the signature using different browsers today but I didn't notice anything that looked too wrong.
[edit] Major powers - back from the dead?
Hello there. I posted a quick note on Hadrian1's talk page to congratulate him on the Great power source he came up with. I also threw in a few speculative remarks about this source giving good grounds for considering bringing the Major powers article back from the dead:
- Actually, I'm not sure that this isn't a good pretext to have a look at reviving the Major powers page, (' The expression major powers has come into a common usage more recently, replacing the original phrase great powers '). This isn't conclusive by itself, but if it is true then it shouldn't be too difficult to find other corroborative sources for the term. I really think that powers of the modern age need to be treated seperately from those which currently fill the Great power page.
Any thoughts?
Xdamrtalk 01:30, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- I wanted that article to be undeleted since it was deleted, I also put in the AfD reconsideration but they were against, so my opinion can only be one, remake the page!

[edit] Your questions on my RfA
Hello Nobleeagle, I've posted answers to the questions you asked on my RfA. If there's anything else you would like to know, please feel free to ask. Cheers, Tangotango 17:05, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your 3rd question
Q: Do you have any criteria when voting in RFAs? If so please present them, if not then it doesn't matter.
How is that relevant to adminship? Everybody is equal in an RfA but crats, so adminship criteria should not matter unless it's an RfB. This just opens the door to people opposing because they disagree on some philosophy of a candidate, even though being an admin is completely separate from any implementation of that philosophy. --Rory096 06:07, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- You don't need to remove it if you don't want to, it's just one of many questions contributing to the decline of RfA, and I suppose it can't do that much damage. --Rory096 06:13, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Italy, a great power?
Okay, I think you misunderstood what I was talking about. I agree with everything in the great powers article, and no, I don't beleive that Italy is a great power- maybe a regional power. I was talking about renaming The EU emerging superpower article to EU superpower controversy to avoid labeling the EU as an emerging superpower. Please see my post of Light the Trip Fantastic's talk page for more info on that. Best Regards, Signaturebrendel 08:25, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Power template
Good work on the power template. I would like to have African Century included though. While it is not about massive power, it is nevertheless about more economic and cultural (and religious) power, an African "revival" on the world stage. That's why I'll add it. If you disagree, let me know. Greetings, Sijo Ripa 10:49, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] China as an Emerging Superpower structure
Ah, so that vote was yours! I was surprised to see that you didn't seem to have voted. So if you don't like the current structure, and you didn't like my proposal, then do you have any suggestions?
I think that we have general agreement that the current factors for/against setup is poor; quite frankly it seems vaguely amateurish and overly simplistic. I did try to kick off a debate on the subject, but no-one seemed to want to bite.
I'm not really concerned with pushing one structure over another, but I do want to see the current one go. If you have any suggestions then I'd be glad to hear them.

[edit] To Noble Eagle
Since you are the administrator for the great power page, I want to make a formal request to have the page translated into Italian. I can do it but I really don't where to start. I have seen that the page is in German and Spanish though the Spanish page is a stub. In order to get true world representation, the more languages the better. If someone wants to check my translation to ensure I am not changing the text to my personal POV, I would be happy to comply.

I think he copied the thing straight out of mine, which I now deleted. The admin stuff isn't inappropriate, it simply won't work if you try and do any sysop function with it - I think. It also has this thing which automatically leaves a notice of all the admin backlogs on the top of the page so that you can get a notice of when CAT:CSD is piled up, etc. BTW, do you have Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi on your watchlist. User:Lankanboy stuck a POV rant on the former and it was there for eight hours, until about 20mins ago. Regards, Blnguyen | rant-line 00:45, 29 June 2006 (UTC).

[edit] POV
" They believe these standards have been in place in the united India since Partition, where Hindus living in Pakistan were forced to evacuate and Muslims living in India were not " Is your example of differing standards for minorities and Hindus in India. My response to that
- - Hindu's were not the only one's forced to leave Pakistan
- - The forcing was by mobs and not the government.
- - The favour was returned to Muslims in northern India (Punjab, Haryana,)
- - Where is the differing standard from the govt of India? Did the govt of India evict Hindus that it should have evicted Muslims too ?
If you have put this as an example then it does show that you beleive this is an example of different standards (never heard this one as an example for differing standard before so it is original) and subscribe to the POV that Muslims should have been pushed out of the country. Haphar 10:19, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your clarification, my reaction was based only on the lines you wrote earlier, thanks for the complete perspective.
- From my POV I agree with the base concepts of Hindutva of it being related to people of the region ( and there is a lot of denial of Hindu origins and past by many South Asian muslims and most of Pakistan). I do not subscribe to this denial mode not to the more hardline version of Hindutva that seems to say " Agree with the majority or get out". Haphar 12:30, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Khalistan Article
Hi! I wish to draw your attention to the Khalistan article and my message on the talk page of user:lostintherush. Regards, AnwarA 19:21, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My ER
Hi Nobleeagle,
[edit] Award
- Actually! I noticed the award on [[user:Lostintherush|Lostintherush's] talk page and copied it from that page. Unfortunately modified the other stuff and omitted to change the name. When I noticed, I changed it right way. Apologies for that, but you deserve the award.
- As for my edits on the Khalistan article, and subsequent blocking, I would appreciate if you look at my edits. They were well intentioned and aimed at improving the quality of the article. Originally, the article looked like the mouthpiece of of some anti India, Pro Khalistan organization. Unfortunately, I got entangled into the revert war. I believe that wikipedia is a powerful medium and some communal people have been abusing this medium and its liberal edit policies to push their POVs and their anti-national (read that as anti-India as most of these editors are PIOs) agenda.
- The statement that I kept on removing was on the killing of Sikhs between the age of 15-35. Atrocities have been committed by both sides but this one is totally unbeleavable (but I will check). This was based on a article by some western Anthropoligist called Pettigrew. Moreover, even if this was true, I am surprised to see why the editor missed out other details such as the gruesom torture of army personnel from the Gharhwal regiment captured inside the golden temple by the extremists. (Soon after the operation, India Today had reported that thier bellies were torn up and blown with grenades). But the question is: is it necessary to include these statements? Are they really so critical to the article? There are countless incidents of atrocities by both sides. Is it necessary to include the account of each such incident? I don't think so or else we would end with a parallel encyclopedia on Khalistan. I have in my front two books right now: "Operation Black Thunder: An Eyewitness Account of Terrorism in Punjab" by Sarabjit Singh and "The Knights of Falsehood" by K.P.S. Gill, both Sikhs. These books provide graphic details of the atrocities and sacrileges committed by the extremists in Punjab. I wish to quote the following examples from the latter (Chapter IV):
- In early 1991, Madha Singh, a "Lt. General" of the Babbar Khalsa, and his associate Inderjit Singh Sakhira, raped Sarabjit Kaur and Paramjit Kaur, the daughters Harbhajan Singh Jat of Sirhali and subsequently abducted and forcibly married them. This was Madha Singh’s third ‘marriage’.
- Jaspal Singh Bhuri, a "Lt. General" of the KCF, abducted an 18 year old girl, Beant Kaur of Manochahal village in December 1990. She was kept in captivity for over four months, and was ‘used’ to satisfy the lust of various gang members. In April 1991 she was released. However, Bhuri followed her to her village and forced her to consume cyanide, because he felt she would damage his group’s reputation.
- Sukhdev Singh ‘Sukha Sipahi’, alias ‘General Labh Singh’, the then KCF Chief, had developed a relationship with a married woman, Surjit Kaur, the wife of Gurdip Singh Thekedar. In July 1988, suspecting her ‘fidelity’, he and his associates gave her a severe beating and set her house on fire. Sukhdev Singh was later killed in a police encounter. His nephew, Paramjit Singh Panjwar, and an associate, Jagjit Singh Billa, believing the woman had acted as a police informer, killed her in October 1989.
- On June 6, a bus was hijacked by terrorists near village Talwandi Ghowan, PS Kathunangal, in the Majitha Police District, Amritsar. The Hindu passengers were forced off the bus and were about to be executed, when two Sikhs, Avtar Singh and Rajwant Singh, intervened to save their lives. They were shot dead, and two other passengers were seriously injured.
- All this while, I was closely examining reports by so called "neutral western media persons of the like of Pettigrew". They reported half truths and rumours with the sole objective of maligning the Indian establishment.
- Another glaring example of the POV nature of the article is under the heading "The Killing of Sikhs". The section reports the killing of Sikhs by the Nirankaris, which is true. However what it conveniently ommits is that A gang of a few hundred members of the Akhand Kirtani Jatha led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and Fauja Singh attacked the Nirankari convention. There was a long history of such clashes, but on this occasion, 13 Sikhs were killed Iincluding Fauja Singh), along with three Nirankaris.
- Sorry for boring you with long post, but I thought you might be interested. AnwarA 09:49, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Great Power Page
Hi! When I tought you were an admnistrator was because of the sentence above. It's someone thanking you for your support for his/her RfA. I tought it was the contrary.
On the Great Power page as I said more then once there are some errors and lacks. And I'm not talking of Italy now. I'm talking about when "you" reshaped the page. First Portugal was there and now it isn't.Whats the matter, Portugal was never a Great Power? And when Portugal and Spain dominated the world long before Britain, France, Austria, Russia, Netherlands and even earlier than Prussia/Germany,Italy, USA, USSR? And Venice, before the discover of the "New World" and new ways to India, Venice was a major commercial and trading power with Asia and a Great Power in Europe. And even in "New World" it had indirectly influence- were came the name Venezuela from- Venice, Venezuela means little Venice. Can I improve the page with Venice inclusion and Portugal re-inclusion. Well, the last is a fact for itself,is like saying USA is a SuperPower today, Portugal was a Great Power without any doubt.
ACamposPinho 0:32, 3 July 2006
- This isn't really a change. It's more a change of the current page, returning some things-(in this case a country-Portugal) that were in the older version of the article and I don't know why were excluded.

[edit] Castes and Tribes of the Punjab
Hi. I am asking your opinion on this festering dispute that has developed between myself and Satbir Singh since the past few days.
The facts of the matter are like this:
I created a template called Castes and Tribes of the Punjab with a view to studying the caste and tribal groups that exist in what was the ancient Punjab region (Punjab (Pakistan), Punjab (India), Haryana and Himachal Pradesh). My intention, unlike any Ibbetsons, Todds or Cunninghams was to study these groups from a purely anthropological perspective sans any controversy so that people visiting this portal would get to know about the huge mosaic that my province (I am a Punjabi) is.
I started with a few groups. But soon enough the groups began to increase. For the sake of brevity, I grouped them under Categories. As the template evolved, I learnt not to name any category speculatively.
The final categories were:
Brahmin groups. Dalit groups. Jat clans. Khatris and other groups. Rajput clans. Shaikhs and other groups. Tarkhans and other groups. Others (groups to which i could not attribute any specific status). In the last (Others), I also included groups such as Kamboj, Khasa, Ahir and Gujjar. However, Satbir Singh separated them and bunched them under a new category called "Surviving Ancient Kshatriya Tribes".
Since that day, a revert war has been on between the two of us. According to Satbir, these groups such as the Ahirs (the ancient Abhiras), the Gujjars (Gurjaras), the Khas (the Khasas), the Kamboj (Kambojas) and Yadav (Yadavas) are ancient Kshatriya tribes mentioned in a number of ancient Sanskrit texts.
My own personal opinion is that all this is true. However, some points must be noted:
The Varna System is a topic subject to a lot of controversy and dispute. I have been noticing this in recent weeks. Pages such as Khatri, Rajput, Kayastha and Bhumihar have been vandalised because many people don't agree with the Varna status of these groups. If the Ahirs, the Gujjars, the Khasaa, the Kambojas and the Yadavas are Kshatriya groups, then so are the Rajputs, Jats, Khatris, Tarkhans et al. I did not create a category entitled "Kshatriya groups" in the first place because I knew I was treading on soft ground. All the above mentioned castes claim Kshatriya status. But we all know, how disputable these claims are. The rigmarole that is the Varna System is known to us all. For example, the Jats, who in the Vedic and Mythological periods were workers should be placed in the Shudra Category under the Varna System. But many Jats clans consider themselves the equal and perhaps the superior of Rajputs as adhrents of Kshatriya Dharma. My own caste, the Khatris and related groups such as Aroras claim Kshatriya status. But we have seen on the Khatri page as to what became of that claim. Ahirs, Gujjars and Yadavs are considered to be OBCs in most Indian states inspite of their being the descendants of ancient Abhiras, Gurjaras and Yadus. There is a controversy raging on the Yadav page presently if I am not wrong, on the status of the caste. Taking all these points into consideration and being aware of the fact that there are users (say Sanjay Mohan and Holywarrior, who have caused great disputes on various caste pages, I proposed categories such as "Kambojs and related groups" (Kamboj, Kamboja, Kamboh and Khasa) and "Gujjars and realted groups" (Ahirs, Gujjars, Dhangars and Bakarwals). But Satbir Singh and another user named Sze cavalry01 objected to it. They returned to "Ancient Kshatriya Tribes". I did a little compromise by making it "Ancient Warrior Tribes", which I later realised would also be POV. Therefore, I changed it to just "Ancient Tribes" - A completely unspeculative term.
However, Satbir Singh does not agree. He calls it a "gross suppression of known historical facts", "a crime against history" and "a political agenda" and has termed me a "Vandal". I have put forward my points. But both of us are yet to agree.
I have fighting a revert war with him for almost a week now. Have a look at the template's history page and Satbir Singh's talk page to get a complete idea of the whole fracas.
This fight has become downright silly. I surely don't expect myself to spend my time, money and energy on such a silly matter. And I am sure neither does the other party.
As of now, Administrator Shresth has protected the page on my request. He has also asked that the dispute be discussed on the talk page of the template and a consensus be reached. Yourself and anybody else you know who has an interest in the Punjab, please come and express your opinion on the talk page.

[edit] Hindu nationalism
I will be glad to assist you in this article. We need solid references from contemporary authors like Siram Goel, Ram Swarup, Koenraad Elst etc. Then we can give the criticisms and allegations. Actually, I was thinking on creating a series on Hindu politics much like Christian politics, in particular, Christian Democracy. A good reference would be Decolonizing the Hindu mind by Dr Elst where he points out the similarities between the latter and integral humanism idealogy of BJP.--Babub→Talk 12:36, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Well I have reported him to the admins becuase he/she is just hurting WP's credibility. So far this user has edited under three different IPs-I'm gathering and adding them to my report which I submitted to the admins. Let's see what they can do-I hope he'll eventually get tired of this imature behavior on his part. (This guy is definitely not a Newbe) Taking this into account, espically the fact that user who insulted you on the emerging superpowers page is probably the same as this one, partial protection seems a very good idea. This way he'll have to get an account and needs to take responsibility for his actions. Regards, Signaturebrendel 07:14, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
