[edit] Conference and NaSTA Awards
Each year, one of the member stations hosts a two-to-three day conference, composed of talks from industry proffessionals, seminars on student TV production, and a short film competition. It culminates in the NaSTA awards dinner.
The NaSTA Awards and are judged by industry proffessionals. Long-standing categories include News and Current Affairs, Light Entertainment, Drama and Video to Music. The award for Best Broadcaster is the premier accolade for a UK student TV station, and competition for the trophy is fierce. It's presentation is the highlight of the conference.
[edit] History
The association is thought to have come into being in the 1970s when the first conference was held in Plymouth.
In 1999 Bournemouth University's Student Union Television Station C6, was chosen to host the 2000 NaSTA awards. Ray Addison became the NaSTA Chairman and for the very first time invited broadcasters and independent production companies to judge the awards categories. Prior to this, universities had voted on each other's work. This practice is continued to this day.
