Hi. I dipusted Image:Twogunhart.gif because the source says "1920s", not "1920". Therefor its just a chance that its US PD, not guarenteed. Hope this clears it up. Kevin_b_er 08:34, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PUI disputes

Hello. If you believe that some image is not unfree, please participate in the discussion about the image on the page WP:PUI. Do not remove the tags, as it would constitute vandalism. By keeping the PUI tag, we can make sure that more people can participate in the discussion of the problem and fix it better, instead of a sudden removal. Ali Mohajerani 13:16, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] F M

i wasnt trying to restart edit war. i did include the fact that he called himself persian. i just reasoned that, the paragraph title was awkward and kind of not true as just because he called himself Persian, doesnt mean he's actually persian. i still thought i'd please both sides by acknowledging that he considered himself persian. sorry. Sohrab Irani 00:47, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

i guess your rationale behind adding persian rock star is fair, even though i disagree, as it should apply to other Parsis. it doesnt matter though. regarding early life, "parsi" explains persian so people should just click the link Parsi and find out. i think the former sentence was best. hope that helps. [edit] Al-Farabi

This is a list of scientists and scholars associated with the Arab World and Islamic Spain (Al-Andalus) that lived from antiquity up until the beginning of the modern age. In some cases, their exact ancestry in unclear. They may have emigrated or immigrated, and thus may appear in other "Lists of...", but nevertheless their names and work are somehow linked to the words "Arab", and "Arabic". Somehow Al-Farabi is linked to the word Arab. I expected him to be there. He should be were people expect him. Add a note on origins if you wish. Don't make the encyclopedia less useful just to make ethnic points, please RuthieK 13:55, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Al-Farabi was not an Arab. He was born in Central Asia and spoke variety of languages. There are some Persian poems attributed to him as well. The fact is al-Farabi might have been an Iranian or a Turk, but an Arab definitely not. Also writing in Latin does not make multitude of European scientists Roman. --alidoostzadeh 16:44, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Plenty of Roman writers were 'Spanish' or 'North African', they are still 'Roman writers','Latin authors'. Paul Celan belongs in a list of German writers, Aimee Cesar, French, VS Naipaul, English, Nabokov, American. To write histories of German, French, English or American literature without them is stupid. It is perverse to leave them out of such lists - and more inportantly unhelpful to the user. It can be practically useful to know distinguish Arab from Berber from Turk from Persian - but people who come to wikipedia for information on science aren't primarily interested in parochial studd like that. Much more important is that those people should contribute something to world now as they did so many centuries ago. RuthieK 21:52, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Dear Mardavich I have a nice article about Al-Farabi, please send me an email alidoostzadeh@yahoo.com . It might be helpful. --alidoostzadeh 16:45, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Islamic conquest of Persia

Thx for notifying me. Yes, I think that the edit is mostly POV. It should be reverted. Arabic was forced on the people as a primary language, not just as an "administrative language". In fact, for many decades, it was forbidden to speak another language than Arabic. Certain populations, such as the population of Khwarizm . Tājik 16:03, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Style

I'm pretty familiar with style; as far as I know there is no standard form which a "city" article needs to take. I'd be g=lad if you could point me to the policy page that dictates that there are certain sections which cannot be included. And of course crime is not only covered in the New York City article, it's mentioned in the introduction! And red links are not bad, they are there to encourage article writing.- Nunh-huh 03:21, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Gardash

Salam,

Mene yazdiginiza gore chokh sag olun. Men her zaman Iranli ishtirakchilarla dostluq munasibeti yaratmaqa chalishmisham, lakin bezi insanlar bunu istemir. Hormetle, Grandmaster 07:56, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Under Wikipedia's talk page guidelines, you are expected to use English on the English Wikipedia's talk pages. In the even that using another language is unavoidable, you are expected to provide translations for the community. The guidelines state that this is because, "comments should be comprehensible to the community at large." Please provide a full translation of the messages you posted here: User_talk:Grandmaster#Gardash ASAP. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 22:02, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, are you saying the above conversation was about mediating between Grandmaster and Khosrow? If so, I accept that, but I would ask you in future to not post messages about other users in languages other than English and if you do, please provide a translation after it. Apart from talk page guidelines, it is not fair for other editors to see their name being discussed and not know the context. It's very disruptive. Sarah Ewart (Talk)

[edit] Religious police

I changed the Khomeini article to reflect the knowledge you imparted.

On a different note, I think it is wrong to say, "they were only civilian volunteers fighting in the Iran-Iraq war." In the Islamic Republic, military service is mandatory and these civilians were not all volunteers.--Patchouli 22:11, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Open Mindedness

I would recomend that while I understand that the article on Iran is somewhat your baby you need to have an open mind to peoples suggested changes. Your reversions of my proposed edits without even discussing, as where I had posted in talk why I was doing what I was doing was completely in appropriate. When you want to revert someone elses edits you should post why you are doing so, are they vandalism, are they not cited. Not only were my edits to the article not vandalism, but they were cited, and they were facts. Add to this that they add to the section by making things more clear. My suggestion is that you need to keep a more open mind and read my reasoning behind my doing what I did. This would be my comment. Those were not reverts they were edits that I was making, and I had good reason to do so. Either way we need to discuss it further, I have cited that section for NPOV. --Meanie 01:27, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your reverts

Hi Mardavich, regardig your revert on Persian language ([4]), may I please remind you of WP:BITE and WP:OWN. I have personally no opinion about the content of that article and no great interest in getting involved in it, but the new anonymous contributor was evidently making a good faith effort in rewriting it, and some parts of his/her edits seem reasonably good at first sight, so if you disagree with them and feel you need to revert them, it would be WP:CIVIL to at least provide a good explanation. An anonymous user has every right to be WP:BOLD in updating pages and to be taken seriously when doing so, just like any established logged-in user. Thank you! Fut.Perf. 10:45, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I hadn't seen you had already partially reverted yourself. Hope you'll get it worked out with the other contributor. Happy editing, Fut.Perf. 10:49, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comments on articles' content

Do not carry discussion talk/discussion comments with my signatute. This is an incivil act. You used my signature! Use your own. If you'd like to mention my comment to you give a link to your page. This talk/discussion pages also keeping track of our communications in wikipedia. E104421 11:42, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
My intention was to move your comment to the article's discussion page as it was about the article's content. Please comment about the content of a specific article on the Talk: page of that article, and not here. --Mardavich 11:49, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
First, you said in the edit history "I did read the discussion page. Why are you removing the dispute tags when there is a dispute". However, i have a doubt whether you really read it or not, since this issue was already discussed in the talk/discussion page of the article. The factual accuracy and neutrality are different issues. On the other hand, my comment in your talk page is directly to you related with your act not with the article itself. Now, I agree this makes no sense. You haven't got a clue what's going on, do you?
