Lyndis

Lyndis (リンディス Rindisu) (usually called Lyn) is a fictional character in the video game Fire Emblem for the Game Boy Advance, the first Fire Emblem game to be released in the US. Lyndis was the first female character of the Lord class in the series, but not the first female character to be a main character of a game.

Her style of fighting is centered on speed and accuracy.

Born in the Sacaean Plains, her parents Hassar and Madelyn, along with the other members of the Lorca tribe were looted and murdered by bandits. Lyn, one of the few survivors of the tribe, lived alone in her house until she finds a tactician (the player) unconscious on the plains. After providing hospitality for the player and fending off invading bandits, she realizes that nothing will change if she does not leave the ruins of the Lorca behind. After that, she and the player set off in search of her maternal grandfather Lord Hausen, the Marquess of Caelin, who she hopes will take her in.

As the game progresses, the player has to complete a chapter in which the player saves an old priest of a shrine. In gratitude, he allows Lyndis to attempt to draw the sword Mani Katti, which is protected by spirts and housed in the shrine. Unlike the mercenary soldier who attempted to steal the Mani Katti before Lyn came, she was able to draw the legendary sword. Since she drew the sword, the priest tells her to take it with her on her journey because the spirits of the blade have accepted her as its rightful wielder.

Later in the storyline, she finds out that her grandfather is dying. At first it seems that he is dying a natural death, but then she finds out he is being poisoned by Lyn's great-uncle Lundgren. He is set on replacing Lyn's grandfather as Marquess Caelin, and will even kill his own brother to do so. Lundgren hears that Madelyn's daughter is alive and attempting to rescue her grandfather, so he begins rumours that there is an imposter calling herself Lyndis, claiming to be the heir to the throne. Lundgren forces the citizens of Caelin to report the whereabouts of Lyndis wherever she may be seen, and orders Caelin soldiers to hunt down and kill the 'imposter'. Lord Hausen is not aware of Lyndis's existence and also does not even know of his daughter Madelyn's death. Thus, when he hears about Lyn being his grand-daughter and how she is attempting to rescue him, he becomes filled with hope. The player and his/her legion fight a battle against Lundgren, and when he is killed, Lyn rushes to her grandfather. After Lyn meets her grandfather, he is unable to believe how much Lyn looks like Madelyn, and immediately believes that she is truly his grand-daughter and heir to the throne. Lyndis gives Hausen the will to recover from the poison and live a bit longer.

After the end of the long journey to rescue Hausen, the player and most of the allies leave Caelin and return to completing their original goals, but Sain, Kent, Will and Florina stay in Caelin to serve the Marquess and his grand-daughter Lyndis. Marquess Hausen would eventually die some time after this game, and before Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi. None of the characters see the player for a year until the player joins Eliwood and Hector to prevent the invasion of Caelin by the Black Fang.

Lyn than accompanies the two other lords as they search for Eliwood's father and eventually take on the Black Fang. She also obtains the Sol Katti sword near the end of the game, which, though not a legendary weapon, is a stronger sister blade of Mani Katti.

In battle, Lyn's abilities generally focus around speed and accuracy. Though her strength is not as high as the other two lords, she is still capable of dealing high amounts of damage due to double attacks and critical hits. Her defenses are somewhat weak, but her speed (allowing her to dodge oncoming attacks) makes up for this shortcoming.

Her character class resembles a myrmidon, both in stats and battle sprites.

When upgraded, Lyn's class is a Blade Lord. After the upgrade, Lyndis can wield swords and bows, a combination not present in any other class (except for Nomad Trooper).

Lyndis's whereabouts after the game remain a mystery. During the course of Fire Emblem: Fuuni no Tsurugi Lyndis and Lord Hausen's names are not mentioned, not even by Eliwood or Hector; It is like they never existed. It is possible that Lyndis is the mother of Roy and had died before Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi took place, possibly through childbirth. However, an alternat ending unlocked through reaching A level support between Lyn and Hector suggests that she is actually the mother of Hector's child. What actually happened is uncertain, since unlike Eliwood and Hector Lyn was created *specially* for Rekka no Ken.
