[edit] Thanks for kind words on Cutman
Hi,
Thank you for your kind words on the Cutman article. Great idea on writing additional articles on various "fight guys" professions - will do! For now, I am concentrating on bringing "Cutman" up to the FA (or at least GA) standard. In preparation, the article is undergoing peer review - could you add your suggestions, if you have any?
Thanks!

[edit] Capitalization in the Tiger Article
Lantoka,
Thanks for the questions on my use of capitalization on the tiger article. The reason I used the capitalization I did goes like this. The descriptive names of the tigers, for example Bengal, Javan and Siberian, is an adjective derived from a proper noun (in this case, a noun describing a place). Adjectives derived from proper nouns are, like the proper nouns themselves, capitalized. The word tiger is not a proper noun, but rather a common noun, and therefore would not be capitalized. How sure am I of this? I'll leave that to the experts. One source I can give you is to use your favorite dictionary. Merriam-Webster, Cambridge and the Oxford English dictionary all capitalize the adjective derived from a proper noun (again, Bengal for example). None of them capitalize the noun tiger. Other examples that might look familiar to you are German shepherd, Siberian husky, German measles, Catholic priest, Benedictine monk, Shetland pony or Welsh rabbit.
I think you were also asking why I used piped links. The reason for this is when I used Wikipedia's internal link function on most of these tigers, the use of a lower case noun (tiger) indicated there was no article by that name. Example: Javan tiger. I had to link via Javan Tiger instead, and used the piped link (Javan tiger) so that it displayed the correct grammar in the original article. I really don't know why this is.
As far as the title of the linked article displaying "Javan Tiger" instead of "Javan tiger" that is merely a matter of personal preference. Wikipedia guidlines state that the second and subsequent words in name of an article should not be capitalized, unless it is a proper noun. I personally disagree with this, as the name of the article is essentially the title of an article and therefore should be capitalized. Since I prefer to see tiger capitalized in the name of the article (but not in the body), I did not feel obligated to change them to a style I disagree with and left them as they were. You can obviously change them if you think they need to be lower case.
I hope this answered your questions. If not, please feel free to write back!

- Lantoka,
- Thanks for the response. Unfortunately some of the research I have done indicates that there is not a consensus on capitalization of the common names of plants and animals (see Naming Conventions). Since this has, as Wikipedia put it, been hotly debated without conclusion, Wikipedia has decided that either manner is acceptable... capitalized or not capitalized. I disagree with this, and while I don't know the extent of the arguments, it would seem to me if the Oxford English dictionary (arguably the most scholarly publication on the subject) only capitalizes the adjective part of a name and not the noun, Wikipedia would be well-served to do the same! Hope this helps!

[edit] Re: Evanescence
Yeah thanks for all the help with that, I will need your help with the Evanescence Discography soon, I basically just need to know how much of the article to actually move there. Should be more work to do on the article when the new album comes out which is why i think a new Discography article should be made. Another thing is it decided that Ev's genre is Alt. Rock?? I think so anyway.--Childzy 13:30, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
i changed everything to alt. rock now so if you see a mention of Ev's genre could you please change it, ive checked most places.--Childzy 19:13, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for the link!
Thanks for the link to the 'common injuries' article! This is a good resource. I'll need to read through it more carefully to see if any of the injuries described would normally be treated by a cutman, but this one is definitely making the reference list. --CasualFighter 20:17, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Evanescence Discography
Just letting you know i finally made the article and i think Evanescence looks much better now, its not as pointlessly long.
Another thing - I think that when the new album comes out we could get the article up to featured level. Or at least good level.--Childzy 20:10, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available
After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:51, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fellow Evanescence fan
Greetings! Yes, I'm trying to maintain order 'round these Ev articles ;) Unfortunately, there are no concerts around where I live (Nashville, TN), and even then, school and work would conspire to keep me away. I'm quite envious though, I'd love to see them in concert! And yes, I love me some X-Wing and TIE Fighter games. You just can't beat a good TIE Defender (though I wouldn't mind having a Skipray Blastboat in my stable, hehe). Cheers! -- Huntster T • @ • C 02:00, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Splashdown
If you really want it deleted, you can go to WP:RFD and follow the procedure there. I wouldn't really bother with it though, since it's not hurting anyone. I'm fairly inclusionist when it comes to redirects, though, so do whatever you feel is necessary. --Mr. Lefty (talk) 22:44, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: EvBoard.com & EvThreads.com
I saw that you asked "So Amy Lee has officially ditched that forum?" on the Talk:Evanescence/Archive20061109 page, and I thought I'd offer what bit of knowledge I know. I didn't want to actually re-start the EvThreads.com discussion on the main talk page - mostly because I'm new to the Wikipedia arena. It is my distinct impression from my communications with Amy Lee and her management that she will no longer participate on EvBoard.com. That is not to say that the other members of the band (past or present) may or may not participate on EvBoard.com.
Amy Lee wholly owns EvThreads.com independent of her current label. Sparkart LLC, a company, is the current site host and administrator. All current members of Evanescence have had accounts made for them on EvThreads.com. Two members have made posts and all but one have at least logged on to EvThreads.com.
I hope you find some of this remotely useful. Be well! DhammaSeeker 15:23, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA
Hello Lantoka. I wanted to thank you with flowers (well, flower) for taking the time to participate in my RfA, which was successful. I'm very grateful for your gracious words in support. I assure you I'll continue to serve the project to the very best of my ability and strive to use the admin tools in a wise and fair manner. Please do let me know if I can be of assistance and especially if you spot me making an error in future. Many thanks once again. Yours, Rockpocket 08:35, 11 November 2006 (UTC) |

[edit] Thanks for your input!
Thank you for taking part in my RfA. The RfA was not successful, mostly because I did a pretty bad job of presenting myself. I'll run again sometime in the next few months, in the hopes that some will reconsider.
In the meantime, one of the projects I'm working on is A Wikimedia Administrator's Handbook. This is a wikibook how-to guide intended to help new administrators learn the ropes, as well as to simply "demystify" what adminship entails. If you are an administrator, please help out with writing it, particularly on the technical aspects of the tools. Both administrators and non-administrators are welcome to help link in and sort all of the various policies regarding the use of these tools on wikipedia in particular (as well as other projects: for example, I have almost no experience with how things work on wiktionary or wikinews). Users who are neither familiar with policy or the sysop tools could be of great help by asking questions about anything that's unclear. The goal is to get everything together in one place, with a narrative form designed to anticipate the reader's next question.
A second project, related but not entailed, is a book on wikimedia in general, with a history of how various policies evolved over time, interesting trivia (e.g., what the heck was "wikimoney" about?), and a history of how the wikimedia foundation itself came about and the larger issues that occurred during its history (such as the infamous "Spanish Fork").
Again, thanks for your input on the RfA, and thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide for the handbook. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 14:44, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RC patrol
Hey, I noticed you just left a {{test4}} tag on an IP's talk page (the one who vandalised Chad). Before you leave a t4 tag, you should make sure how long ago the previous vandalism was. The last vandalism from this IP was over a week ago, so given the fact that not all IPs are static, it's more than probable that it was a different person. Even if it wasn't, we have to AGF and suppose that it was. They did it again, so I've left a t3 tag, but you know how it is - newbie reads 'anyone can edit!' and the next thing they know, they're blocked. It's best to give progressive warnings, unless the vandalism is particularly obnoxious. Sorry if you feel like I'm calling you out on this, but it makes admins uncomfortable to block users when they're started off with a t3 or 4. Cheers, riana_dzasta 12:33, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Ugh, that sounded rather cold, on second reading - sorry, I'm trying to deal with someone vandalising an article I'm watching. Sorry about that :) I keep running into you tonight, and you keep beating me to reverts! Good work. riana_dzasta 12:40, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, immediately after I posted the last message, I looked at your contribs and realised you use VandalProof, so I realised it must be something like that :) No worries. PS you can use {{tl|test1}} to achieve the same effect as the nowiki tags, plus it saves time. Cheers, and keep up the good work! :) riana_dzasta 12:43, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Versions cleanup
Yeah, I think Friday was supposed to have taken off protection so you could work on that version. The cleanup is not that bad actually. When/if it goes into the mainspace, it needs to have an intact history, all in one file if possible. The histories of the /gm page and the /Sandbox2 page can be merged cleanly though since work on one started long after work on the other stopped. The histories could be merged now or later, and it doesn't make much difference. Just ask any admin to history-merge them before a move to the article space happens. — Saxifrage ✎ 17:11, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
