From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kazimira Danutė Prunskienė (pronunciation (help·info)) (born February 26, 1943 in a village in Švenčionys district municipality) was the first Prime Minister of Lithuania after declaration of independence on March 11, 1990. Currently she is Minister of Agriculture as well as leader of the Peasants and New Democratic Party Union. She ran in the Lithuanian presidential election, 2004 against the current president, Valdas Adamkus. She hoped to receive votes from supporters of impeached former president Rolandas Paksas.
Despite her efforts and achievements at Sąjūdis movement in the late 1980's and the early independent Lithuania, Prunskienė is sometimes accused of cooperation with KGB.
