[edit] Definition Drift/Shift?
How do you come to make the claim that the term "Red Tory" has undergone a "definition drift," as you put it? This seems quite "made-up" as I have not seen this term used in any common way in any academic journal. We wouldn't be engaging in some creative license here would we? Sorry for not responding to your request for assistance. I was recently through a particularly battering edit war that resulted in a week-long semi-protection of the article, and one anon user repeatedly calling for me to be stripped of my admin privileges, so I really don't have the stomach for dealing with another aggressive editor like Truly Tory. Barnstar Brigade

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
- "Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."

Sorry for the late response, busy time both in Wikipedia and reality, and consistently and increasingly less appreciated in both. Anyway, I'm not sure I saw much duplicate material in the two articles. On second inspection, though, I did notice a few unreferenced statements in the speech article, possibly original research ("most memorable quote..." "a symbol to this day..."), and I suppose if you cut those down the article might be less worthy to stand on its own. Article author might be pretty upset, based on the history. I saw your edit of my change to the Meech Lake Accord article, and I have to disagree. The matter-of-fact reality of the crisis may have been the Mayor of Oka's ill-considered golf course wet dreams, and the jock-shock boyos of the SQ rampaging into thick woods with guns blazing, but the political mood of the times were exactly as I said them: and it was widely perceived that Quebec's hostility to natives for "blocking the Meech Lake Accord" underlay both the Mayor of Oka's intransigence and his disregard for the Kanesetake Mohawks, and also beneath the behaviour of the SQ and the Quebec government over the matter, to say nothing of the Van Doos themselves. To believe that the Oka Crisis was ONLY about a golf course is just disingenuous; it was a given at the time that Quebeckers were "out to get" natives, and Oka was the manifestation of that, even though you want to claim it was just over a golf course. The most ironic line I remember is from one of the off-duty SQ who were stoning the refugee convoy as it fled Kahnwake on the eve of the military's ultimatum: (in heavily-accented French): "They [Mohawks] are a conquered people - they should behave that way". Ironic because the Iroquois were on the winning side in 1812-14 as well as in 1763. And I don't think Quebeckers have really forgotten that either.Skookum1 19:13, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
- This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

[edit] A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks for uploading Image:Chretienconvention.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

- Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
