Gautam Chatterjee

Gautam Chatterjee was a musician & singer & one of the original founder members of the band Mohiner Ghoraguli formed in the 1970s. The band & Gautam Chatterjee had immense influence in the formation of modern bengali songs. His band played a large part in challenging the traditionalist notions of bengali songs (Bangla Gaan). Gautam Chatterjee hence is seen as having started modern bengali rock music.
Gautam burst forth in such scenario with totally new energy, new sound, new stagecraft, new dress code and jolted Bengalis out of their stupor. He introduced absolutely new lyrics; he introduced musical instruments like guitar, saxophone, drums. He made Bengalis aware that any song can be sung accompanied by the guitar. The band 'Moheener Ghoraguli' disintegrated at the end of the seventies but he continued his journey of music alone, composing new songs inspiring the new generation. So as the journey continued Gautam became a myth, a legend, an icon.
