Frederick (Animal Farm)

Mr. Frederick of Pinchfield Farm was a human character in the satirical book Animal Farm by George Orwell. Mr. Frederick was one of Animal Farm's neighbors, and kept a small but organized farm. He was constantly in bad terms with the other farm on the opposite side of Animal Farm owned by Mr. Pilkington.

During the book, many of the animals hated Mr. Frederick, who was known for his notorious deeds. Some of the animals even proposed invading Frederick's farm. However, Napoleon decided to agree to sell his pile of timber to Mr. Frederick, who was more intent upon buying the timber than Mr. Pilkington. However, Frederick paid with fake banknotes, thereby cheating the animals out of a lot of money.

After giving the fake banknotes to Napoleon, Mr. Frederick prepared an invasion of Animal Farm, which Napoleon only managed to defeat barely afterwards (see Battle of the Windmill). Armed with several guns, the men managed to repulse the animals and blew up the windmill by drilling blasting powder into the windmill and blowing up the result of two years hard work by the animals. Though the animals regained courage after the explosion and chased Mr. Frederick out of the farm, it was at a heavy cost, as many of the animals were wounded/injured, and several were killed.

Mr. Frederick played the role of Hitler of Germany in Orwell's book. After Germany broke her treaty with Russia, Hitler promptly invaded Russia, jealous of the resources, and nearly succeeded. The Russians eventually won over and defeated the Germans.
During this invasion, many of the Russians started starving and many were being killed due to Germany's better equipped army. The Allies failed to offer much help to the Russians (such as Pilkington's message: SERVES YOU RIGHT). However, the Russians managed to defeat the Germans and push them out of the country.
In the 1999 live-action film version of Animal Farm, Frederick is depicted as being just as tough ("On my farm, there are no weak men") and also has a Hitler mustache. However, his role in the film is reduced and in one scene, he expresses sympathy to the starving animals (even though Pilkington says they look alright).
