Far Western District
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Far Western District is a geographical district of the Barbershop Harmony Society, an all-male fraternal singing organization. It encompasses the states of California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, and the southern part of Utah. It is one of the largest districts in the Society, both in number of chapters, quartets, and members. It currently stands at 85 chapters and 3,223 members.
In recent years, the District has risen to prominence as a producer of a very high number of highly competitive quartets and choruses. The Masters of Harmony chorus (Santa Fe Springs, CA) has won 6 International Championships in a row to date, and the Phoenicians Chorus (Phoenix, AZ), now called the Spirit of Phoenix, has won three International bronze medals since 1990. The Westminster Chorus of Westminster, California won a silver medal at the 2006 contest in Indianapolis. The District has produced a slew of recent champion and medalist quartets, including Gotcha!, Metropolis, Revival, Nightlife, O.C. Times, and Standing Room Only.
