Calhoun Tubbs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Calhoun Tubbs was a fictional blues singer/songwriter played by David Alan Grier on the hit sketch comedy show In Living Color. In the clips, Grier plays an older, African-American male with sunglasses and a top hat who occasionally offends people with his spontaneous and repetitive situational songs. He plays the same guitar riffs over and over, usually preceded by the words "Wrote a song about it, like to hear it? Here it goes..." and followed by a high pitch squeal and the words "Thank ya, thank ya very much."
An example of one of his songs:
Tubbs is trying to motivate a struggling and out-of-ideas rock artist played by Jim Carrey. In the song, Tubbs sings:
"Lord, you so damn uglay, I don't know if that's your face or if your neck threw up...
Ah-ahahaha"
