Belilios Public School (庇理羅士女子中學) is the first government school for girls in Hong Kong. It was founded in 1890 and year 2005 is the 115th anniversary of the school.

In 1890, the Hong Kong Government set up the Central School for Girls at Old Bailey Street as the counterpart of Central School. When Mr. E. R. Belilios, a Jewish philanthropist donated HK$ 25 000 for a new building for the Central School for Girls in 1893, at the old site of Central school (Queen's College, Hong Kong), a 3-storeyed building was erected between Hollywood Road and Gough Street. The school was re-named Belilios Public School in honour of Mr. Belilios. In 1946 after Second World War, BPS moved to Hospital Road. In April 1965, the school moved to its present premises in Tin Hau Temple Road. To mark the occasion, a new school motto Climb High, See Wide, a school song and a new school badge were created.

BPS has been one of the best secondary schools in Hong Kong. While the students generally achieve a high academic performance, the school promotes all-rounded development in different fields of arts, music and sports.
The followings are extracted from the school's official website regarding their achievements in year 2003/04 -
In the 55th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, 17 Champions, 23 First runners-up and 27 Second runners-up were obtained in the English section; 28 Champions, 25 First runners-up and 20 Second runners-up were obtained in the Chinese section. One of our S2 girls was awarded the Champion in English in the Air 2003-2004 (Lizzie McGuire) and won an education tour to the UK in August 2004. Another S5 girl represented the EMB to attend the First APEC Youth Scientists Camp held in August 2004 in South Korea. In the 2004 Hong Kong Odyssey of the Mind Competition, our school obtained the pleasing results of Second runner-up, Best Creativity and Merit Prize. As for the 2004 Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition, two groups of S4 girls entered the final round and one of them obtained the Honourable Mention. Both teams were selected to represent Hong Kong to attend the “3rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Youth Science Festival” in Beijing from 2 August to 10 August 2004. Moreover, one S5 girl won 2nd Prize in the Award Scheme for Tomorrow’s Scientists of the Nation.
In the 40th Schools Dance Festival, our school obtained the Honour Award in the Chinese Dance Section. In the 56th Schools Music Festival, our girls obtained 14 Champions, 19 First runners-up and 18 Second runners-up. Furthermore, two S4 girls studying Travel and Tourism were selected to represent the HKSAR to attend an international forum held in Germany in November 2003. A pair of S6 girls were awarded Outstanding Student Environmental Ambassadors and given the opportunity to participate in a study tour to Japan in July 2004. Two other S6 girls won 2nd and merit prizes respectively in the Environmental Protection Essay Competition organized by the International Lions Club and attended the International Youth Camp held in Austria and Denmark. Moreover, in August 2004, one S6 girl was selected by Cathay Pacific to go on a study tour to France.
The achievements of our girls in sports competitions were also pleasing. Our Athletics Team has been promoted to Division Two in the current school year 2004-2005; the Basketball Team and the Badminton Team obtained First runner-up in Division One of Hong Kong Island. The Table Tennis Team got Second runner-up in Division One and our Squash Team also obtained Overall Champion. One of the members of our Squash Team received the Outstanding School Athlete Award 2003-2004 and was elected Outstanding Athlete in Squash in the BOCHK Bauhinia Bowl, and First runner-up in the “Student Sportsperson of the Year” organized by the South China Morning Post.
