Star Trek: Armada II is a computer game published by Activision in 2001, based upon the Star Trek universe. The game was developed by Mad Doc Software. It is the sequel to Star Trek: Armada. Star Trek: Armada II was released by Activision a year after they acquired the full rights to all the franchise holding of the PC Game's franchise from Viacom. It was the first of the 3 major Star Trek CP Game sequel titles that was released by Activision from 2001 until their departure from the franchise in 2003.

Another real-time strategy game like the original, it showcases the events in the Alpha Quadrant between the United Federation of Planets, the Klingons, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassians, Species 8472, and the Borg.

[edit] Plot Summary

A few months after the events of Star Trek: Armada, the Borg are once again threatening the Alpha Quadrant. The Borg have created fast assimilation pyramids that assimilate entire worlds instantly.

Deciding they could not let the Borg assimilate all of the Alpha Quadrant, Starfleet Command seize control of a transwarp conduit, and attempt to launch a counteroffensive into the Delta Quadrant, Borg space.

While the Federation mounts its attack, the Klingon Empire finds out that the Cardassian Union is planning a strike of its own in the Alpha Quadrant, so the Klingons and Cardassians go head-to-head.

Meanwhile the Borg discover that Species 8472 has found a way to the Alpha Quadrant. The Borg Queen realizes that they need the Federation's help to defeat Species 8472.

The races available in campaign mode are The United Federation of Planets, The Klingon Empire, and The Borg Collective. In other methods of play, such as Multiplayer and Instant Action (Skirmish), the Cardassians, Romulans, and Species 8472 are added as playable factions. Also, on various sites, there are mods for download that will add races to this game.

There is a community of modders creating new ships, stations, and races for Star Trek: Armada II. One replaces the Star Trek element entirely, replacing it with objects from the Babylon 5 universe. There are also some which include multi-scifi universes; including Star Wars and Andromeda.

Due to the actions between Activision and Viacom, regarding the Star Trek license, Armada II has become highly sought since it was quickly pulled from the market. Original copies of the program sell on Amazon for over $100. This is up from a starting price of $60 in 2005. Although the Internet auction site eBay lists a few copies for under $100, the hard to obtain nature of the product can not be denied. Although Armada II was included in a multigame package, and was repackaged and resold at the start of the PC "small box" era, it is difficult to obtain in any form.
