Hi, I noticed you are actively categorizing images of seals. Good work! But please don't remove the {{coatofarms}} tag. It is there to state that the image is used legally in Wikipedia because it is a seal (though the tag is named "coatofarms" it also includes seals). You may read more in Wikipedia:Copyrights. This is different from categories, you may add them still. We've done hard work adding them so it would be nice if you'd leave them there. Thank you. –Mysid (talk) 12:35, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

The {{coatofarms}} is a template, not a category. Note that templates are enclosed in {{ }} whereas categories are in [[ ]]. The {{coatofarms}} template additionally makes an inclusion to [[Category:Coats of Arms Images]], that's true. So if you add the Seal category they still retain in the Coats of Arms Images category, because of the template. I think it's a bit vague category for seals, too – You might want to discuss this on the talk page of the {{coatofarms}} template. –Mysid (talk) 13:19, September 12, 2005 (UTC)

The Seal template is not suitable for seals in general, because it says that "This logo is a seal of a local government or one of its government agencies—". I think the text of {{coatofarms}} is more suitable for city seals etc. –Mysid (talk) 05:59, September 13, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy tags

Do not remove a speedy delete tag placed by another user. To remove the tag from a page you created yourself is a really bad idea, especially when it's a page that needs to be deleted because it's a duplicate of an existing article. Please don't do it again. Please stop breaking wikipedia interlinks by replacing them with links to Gay (homosexual)— it's going to be deleted. Bishonen | talk 17:45, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Jaie, good evening to you too. Posting on my talk ("discussion") page like you did is a good way of contacting me. However, discussions of page names are best conducted on the talk pages of the page in question—Talk:Gay, in this case—so that others can read them too. I'm not going by my own views in reverting your edits, but by the facts that a) there was not consensus for them, and b) you created a page that is a duplicate of an existing page.

(On a side note, I do in fact disagree with you about the primary meaning of "gay": I think it used to mean mainly "happy", "cheerful", but now means mainly "homosexual".)

You need to come to an agreement with other users before making controversial page name changes, and it might not be the easiest kind of editing to start with. But you are most welcome to edit at Wikipedia! You might want to create a username and an account so that it's easier to talk to you—see the link for "Create an account" in the top righthand corner. It's good if you sign all contributions on talk pages, otherwise those pages become really confusing! You can just type "Jaie", if you like, or--the wikipedia trick--type four tildes, ~~~~, which will display on the page as your chosen username (or your IP, if you remain anonymous) plus datestamp. I have no inclination to clean up others articles if I do not have the time at hand to do so. Either I clean an article properly, or not at all, and mark it with a cleanup notice. This one is a special case - I'm not sure either {{coatofarms}} or {{seal}} is appropriate for the 9th circuit seal, as this is a federal court; the seal is therefore a federal government design, and is in the public domain, so it's really not a copyrighted image displayed under fair use. -- BD2412 ^talk 19:10, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

• This would only apply to seals, images, and other items created or published by the U.S. federal government, which has, by law, waived its right to copyright anything it produces. The states are basically free to do as they wish (and the state's decision controls city/county governments in that state). Some have similarly waived their rights, but most have not, and it would be a chore to research the pertinent law of each state, so we just use them under the fair use provisions. -- BD2412 ^talk 19:31, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
