Świętochłowice (German: Schwientochlowitz, pronunciation: Image:Ltspkr.png [ˌɕvjɔ̃tɔxwɔˈviʦɛ]) is a town in south Poland with 55,500 inhabitants (2005). Situated in the Silesian Voivodship (since 1999), previously in Katowice Voivodship (1975-1998).

The city is known since the 13th century, and received Magdeburg rights between the 13th and 14th century. It was part of Germany until 1920 (although 51,9% of plebicite voted to stay with Germany), then became part of Poland, in 1939 part of Germany again and in 1945 part of Poland.

A German labour camp, Eintrachthütte labour camp, was opened in Schwientochlowitz in 1943. In 1945 the camp was reopened by Polish communist authorities as a concentration camp, Zgoda. The camp, in which about 2,500 prisoners were systematically murdered by its commander Salomon Morel, was closed in November. Morel currently resides in Israel, and is wanted for war crimes and crimes against humanity by Polish authorities.

Świętochłowice is situated in the Southern part of Silesian plateau. Świętochłowice borders with Bytom (North), Ruda Śląska (West, Southern West) and Chorzów (East, Southern East).

In Świętochłowice live 55 527 people. The city has the biggest population density in Poland and one of the biggest in Europe: about 4200 people per km².

Świętochłowice is situated in Silesian-Krakówian climate-zone. Total precipitation is about 700 mm every year. The greatest precipitation is in July and the least in February. An amplitude of year temperatures is usually 7°C. On January in Świętochłowice is approximately -2.5°C and on July is 18°C.
