A triangle is the flat shape formed by joining three points (not in a straight line) with straight line segments. A triangle is a three sided polygon. It is the simplest shape that can close in any area.

There are several types of triangles:
- An equilateral triangle is one whose sides are all the same length. Its angles are all 60 degrees.
- An isosceles triangle is one with two sides that are the same length.
- A scalene triangle is one whose sides are all different lengths.
- A right triangle is one whose largest angle is exactly 90 degrees. The side that does not touch this angle is called the hypotenuse.
- An obtuse triangle is one whose largest angle is more than 90 degrees.
- An acute triangle is one whose largest angle is less than 90 degrees.
