Seyyed Mohammad Khatami (سید محمد خاتمی), born October 14, 1943 in Piranshahr, was President of Iran from August 2, 1997 to August 2, 2005 and was followed by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He was heralded as a reformist, but was unable to change much under the regime of Khamenei.
