Joruba

Yorùbá ili Joruba je naziv za najveću etničku grupu u Nigeriji. Jorube sačinjavaju cca. 21% ukupnog stanovništva Nigerije i broje više od 30 miliona pripadnika širom Zapadne Afrike. Na sjeverozapadu graniče s narodima Nupe i Borgu, naroidma Esan i Edo na jugoistoku, Igalama i ostalim srodnim grupama na sjeveroistoku, Egunima, Fonima i drugim Gbe-jezičnim narodima na jugozapadu. Dok većina Joruba živi na jugozapadu Nigerije, postoje značajne Joruba zajednice u Beninu, Togou, Sijera Leoneu, Kubi i Brazilu.
Jorube su glavna etnička skupina u državama Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun i Oyo; također čine veliki dio stanovništva u Beninu.
Jorube su jedan najurbaniziranijih naroda u subsaharskoj Africi, koji je prve gradove sagradio još oko 500. godine. Stekli su veliko bogatstvo baveći se trgovinom te razvili složene sisteme vladavine. Po vjeri uglavnom animisti, u 19. vijeku su potisnuti na jug od strane militantnih muslimana iz Sokoto kalifata. Tada je među njih prodrlo kršćanstvo.
