- Tales of Ordinary Madness (1981) - portretterer Bukowskis sjølbiografiske karakter Henry Chinaski.
- Barfly (1987) med Mickey Rourke som Henry Chinaski bygger på Bukowskis liv, med manus skrevet av han sjøl.
- Den belgiske filmen Crazy Love (1987) bygger på historia Copulating Mermaid of Venice, California og til dels på Ham on Rye. Filmen ble av Bukowski karakterisert som den beste filmatiseringa av verkene hans.
- Kortfilmen Lune Froide (1988) av den franske filmskaperen Patrick Bouchitey bygger på The Copulating Mermaid of Venice, California. Den kom i en lengre versjon i 1991, der deler av fortellinga Erections, Ejaculations, Exhibitions and General Tales of Ordinary Madness var trukket inn.
- Dokumentarfilmen Bukowski: Born Into This (2004) inneholder intervjuer med venner og beundrere av Bukowski, bl.a. Sean Penn, Tom Waits og Bono.
- Filmen Factotum - bygd på Bukowskis andre roman - av den norske filmskaperen Bent Hamer hadde verdenspremiere på filmfestivalen Kosmorama i Trondheim i 2004.
