Sorry to put this on the top but the whole Hindi/Urdu discussion for "आज़ाद"is wrong. "आज़ाद" means free in the sense of freedom not in the sense of without payment. We should use "मुफ्त" instead. 82.54.109.139 ०८:११, १ सितम्बर २००६ (UTC)

For Hindi Wiki, the tag line should say "एक स्वतन्त्र ज्ञानकोश" -"स्वतन्त्र" instead of "आज़ाद" as आज़ाद is Urdu.

Usage of such coloquial/Hindustani/Urdu looks quite odd when in other places in the Hindi pages we use words like "मुख्य पृष्ठ","वार्ता","प्रमाणित" etc, and popular Hindi alternatives are available.

Similarly "विकि-सफ़र" should change to "विकि-यात्रा".

This is nothing against Urdu; if a popular Hindi word is available, we should use it instead of taking the coloquial route and using a Hindustani/Urdu word.

I am against purging out so-called Urdu words. First of all, linguistically, Hindi and Urdu are the same language. And what you have said "common Hindi alternative words" are in fact very, very uncommon in speech. Their (so-called) Urdu equivalent is much more common. My vote will be for "स्वतंत्र" and "यात्रा", use of that would be more natural to me. Agree linguistically, Hindi and Urdu are same. Bol-chaal waali Hindi is very generic term, ""स्वतंत्र" and "यात्रा" are for me Bol-chaal waali Hindi. Infact if you lookup "free" and "travel" in http://www.shabdkosh.com you would get "स्वतंत्र" and "यात्रा" as equivalent. So, changes will be appreciated. Mistakes of शुद्धलेखन 'rhasva','dirgha' are quite common in Devnagari script and indic language wikipedias . On english wiki I found that at following link we can put up a request to prgrammers to write a bot programme for us.Wikipedia:Bot requests Before putting up such a request I would like to invite suggestions from all Marathi/Devanagari/Hindi/Sanskrit Wikipedians.

A spell checking bot would be great. en:Aspell has a Hindi wordlist along with many other indic language wordlists. I would imagine that would be quite helpful in building the bot. You could either just use the list or use aspell itself. There is also a dict for for Hindi, Marathi and a few others through the dictd. There are so many mistakes in the script. most no of mistakes are of " ि ". I can see all the ि 's either replaced by " ी " or coming after the required character.Even in the comment line "विषय/शीर्षक:" is wrong. it should be" िवषय/शीर्षक:". So there should be a software to change and check the spelling mistakes. further there should be more characters. example: there should be a "half न" instead of "न"्. It will make the text look better.

That's unfortunate, because I believe my computer is set up correctly and I see the first one you mention correctly and the second one wrong (it gives me the ि with a dotted out circle instead of connecting it to the व). तारीख के लिए अंग्रेजी अंक मानक है, उदाहरण: 12 मई, 2006। लेख मे अंको का मानक तय नही किया गया है। यहाँ कोई मानक न होने के कारण मैने लेखो मे भी अंग्रेजी अंको को भी इस्तेमाल किया हैं। हम १४ साल लिखे या 14 साल, या जनसंख्या १२,२३४ या 12,234 ज्यादा फर्क नही जान पडा। अगर हिंदी के अंको को मानक बनाया गया तो आगे से वे इस्तेमाल करूगाँ। मानक तय करने के लिए ज्यादा लोगो को यहाँ मत देना होगा।

1. ईस मै से एनिमेसन और बडा तथा ज्यादा साईज के आइकन चित्रौं को रिप्लेस किया जाये|
2. अन्य भाषाऔं के सुची को छोटा किया जायें| सिर्फ १०,००० लेख तक कि भाषासुची रखें|
3. डोनेसन के बक्सा को दान पृष्ठ मै हि मिलाया जाये ना कि मुख्य पृष्ठ पर|
4. अगर सम्भव हों तो मुख्य पृष्ठ का ज्ञान का बक्सा को जैसे कि प्राकृतिक और निगमनात्मक विज्ञान को भी हटा दिया जाये| उन कि जगह पोर्टलाईज्ड श्रेणीयों को मुख्य पृष्ठ से लिंक करें ना कि मुख्य पृष्ठ मै हि डालें|
5. खास तस्विर के बारे मै कुछ करें| मेरे विचार मै अंग्रेजी विकिपीडिया के ३६५ खास तस्विरौं जो विकिकमन्स् मै भी है, उन्हे लाकर एक कोड के जरिये व तस्विरों को एक साल के लिये हर दिन प्रयोग करें| अगर आप लोगों को मन्जुर है तो इसे जब क्यु मे भी रख सकते है|

In my opinion, my preferences का अनुवाद मेरी पसंद आसान है. special page के स्थान पर भी विशेष पन्ना आसान है.

हिंदी विकिपीडिया के नए मुखपृष्ठ के विकास के लिए देखे पृष्ठ: विकिपीडिया:मुखपृष्ठ। साथ हि मुखपृष्ठ के शीर्षक को भी सुधारा जाए,ऐसी भावना है। मुखपृष्ठ की कडी कई जगह जुडी होती है, सो मुख्य-पृष्ठ को पूरी तरह से नही हटाया जायगा। बल्कि मुख्यपृष्ठ को मुखपृष्ठ की तरफ रीडैरेक्ट किया जायेगा। शुरूआत मे नया पृष्ठ वर्तमान पृष्ठ जैसा दिखेगा, धीरे-धीरे यह नए रूप मे बदला जाएगा। नया पृष्ठ फिलहाल सुरक्षित नही है, उसे कोई भी बदल सकता है। अन्तिम रूप देने के बाद इसे मुखपृष्ठ पर लाया जाएगा और सुरक्षित कर दिया जाएगा।

Sorry for the message in English, but it would take me too long to write in Hindi. Thijs!bot is flooding हाल में हुए बदलाव with good edits. I'm used to being able to flag bots with a bot flag on the english wikipedia so that they are hidden from the normal display on recent changes, but I am not a bureaucrat here. सुझाव अच्छा है। वैसे नए मुखपृष्ठ पर तो हटने वाली है यह चेतावनी (देखे: विकिपीडिया:मुखपृष्ठ) मगर आपने यह मुद्दा उठा दिया है तो अभी के मुखपृष्ठ पर से भी हटा दिया जाएगा।

My experience with Mozilla 1.5 (on windows xp professional)is different. Most of words appears wrongly spelled in it, especially the 'maatra'. In IE its looking fine, may be Mozilla uses some different mechanism to display fonts. So I request you to add the note again. I would like to suggest few more things - (as Iam new to wiki, I don't know how to put bullets in editor) 1) The hindi fonts should be changed, as these fonts are not that much attractive and clear. Fonts should be more curvey like those used in bengla wiki. 2) Hindi translations should be more generic. The translated words should not appear very odd. Its not necessary to use exact translation, but while using generic words the meaning should not change. 3) The main page layout contains so many hyperlinks. This reduces the readability of page. Hyperlinks should be used with care. 4) The editing page should have a pointer/link to download the hindi typewriter. I didn't find any and hence writing in English (sorry). 5) The tooltips are showing special characters (square boxes) which is pretty vague.

Hi, I am new to the Hindi Wikipedia with very little knowledge of the Hindi language. I love Hindi, and would love to be able to speak it fluently in the future. I would recommend you to take inspiration from other Indic Wikipedias (such as the bn: Bengali Wikipedia) and set out rules for general pages. Also, in my opinion the first page should be cleaned up a bit. I would like to stay at the Hindi Wikipedia. By the way, may I ask why some of the lines underneath the Hindi words (in a Hyperlink) are far more high up as they should be? Is it just the font which is causing the lines to be under each link? Can you explain more about the Hyperlink issue? Which browser and OS you are using? I don't see that .
