OpenHistory是一個網上的公開及自由的日本歷史百科全書，由Chris Spackman創辦。根據OpenHistory的介紹頁面中所記載：
我(Chris Spackman)在美國新奧爾良洛約拉大學修讀歷史，並取得文學學士學位之後，前往夏威夷大學修讀亞洲史。1995年7月，我透過JET計劃來到日本，and was soon looking around for a way to continue my studies while living in inaka. Somewhere along the line I got the idea of starting an online encyclopedia of historical information--partly to learn html and partly as a way of furthering my studies.

I would like OpenHistory to eventually include historical documents (like the US Constitution), books, book reviews, encyclopedias, bibliographies, and everything else that people need in order to do history. [(]Getting all possible primary documents online may pose a bit of a problem.)
The contents are available under GNU Free Documentation License and some articles and pictures have been copied into Wikipedia.
