Server
From Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia written in simple English for easy reading.
- A server is also a person who serves you, like a waiter at a restaurant.
In net jargon, a group of words people use about the Internet, a server is software that runs on a cig computer to serve many things from user or client machines. Client-server is the usual name for this. It relies on a protocol. For example an HTTP server runs the HTTP protocol to create what you see as a web site on your computer.
In a peer to peer system, every computer might be both a client and a server to each other. This is good for file sharing.
