Isaiah Berlin was born on 6th June 1909 in a town named Riga. At that time Riga was a part of the Russian Empire. He died on 5th November 1997. He was a Jew. He was the first Jew to win a prize. The prize gave him a fellowship at All Souls College, Oxford, England.
Isaiah Berlin was an important person of the 20th century. People see him as an important thinker of Liberalist ideas. He obtained an Order Of Merit and was a professor at the University of Oxford. He made a distinction between positive liberty and negative liberty. His most famous work is probably called Two Concepts of Liberty (where he introduced this distinction.
