Hard is a word that can have two different meanings. It is usually an adjective.
1) Hard can mean: difficult (the opposite is easy):

- It is hard to play the violin.
- It is hard to be good all the time
This kind of "hard" can also be used slightly differently, as an adverb:
- He works very hard. (This means that he does a lot of work).
2) "Hard" can mean: firm and solid (the opposite is soft).
