The school has over two thousand students and a hundred staff. The principal is Koh Chin Thong, Martin who took over from Lee Tee Choon on 15 December 2005. The school's premises at Fajar Road is undergoing redevelopment, and classes are temporarily held at Teck Whye Crescent in neighbouring Choa Chu Kang. It is a double-session school, with a portion of the pupil population (Primary 1 and 2) attends classes in the afternoon, while the remainder (Primary 3 to 6) attends classes in the morning. The school is noted for its strength in the aesthetics: music and the performing arts, having won national awards for Chinese dance, Malay dance, Indian dance, as well as winning national awards for their brass band and choir groups. It garnered a total haul of a Gold and 4 Silver awards in the Singapore Youth Festival in 2004. The school improved on the performance in the 2006 Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging when it achieved 2 Golds and 3 Silvers. The Gold recipients were the Chinese Dance Troupe and the Choir. The school achieved the inaugural National Arts Education Award or NAE (Silver) for primary schools in 2005. The silver was the highest level award given to primary schools in 2005. [1]
The school followed the 2005 successes and achieved the School-Based Excellence (PSE) award from the Ministry of Education for its aesthetics programme, in particular dance. [2] Zhenghua Primary School will receive a recurrent grant of up to $100,000 per year from 2006, so as to further raise the quality and outreach of her DArE@zhenghua programme.
Other success for the school includes rugby and soccer, where the school has attained the highest achievement at national level. For instance, the rugby team was west zone champion (junior) in 2005 and 2006, and national runner-up in 2006.
