Vijayaraj (popularly known as Vijaykanth, born on August 25, 1952) is a popular Tamil actor and politician.

Born as Vijayaraja on August 25, 1952 in a Telugu household in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. His parents are K.N.Alagaswami and Aandal. He married his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth on January 31, 1990 and has two sons with her, Vijay Prabhakar and Vignesh Pandian. He is nicknamed Captain, but no one knows why is he been called captain, despite he starred in a movie Captain Prabhakaran.

Many of his recent movies contains nationalist plots about a terrorist, corrupt Indian politician or mafia don troubling the Indian people and Vijaykanth getting back at the trouble-makers single-handedly. His very speciality move is where he keeps his left leg on the wall and kicks the rowdy with the right leg. He is also famous for acting village oriented movies, many of them had huge success across Tamil Nadu. Vijaykanth was gifted the campaign van used by late M.G.Ramachandran by his wife and chief minister Janaki Ramachandran.

In 2006, Vijaykanth started a political party DMDK(Desia Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam) and contested in Tamil nadu Elections.He won from Vridhachalam constituency which is considered as PMK stronghold.Other members of his party did not win. He was able to secure around 8% votes in his first election.
