Talk:Vicariate Apostolic of Fiji

[edit] Context section removed
I have removed the context section for irrelevance. Stuff about the population of Fiji in the early 1900s is irrelevant to the article. Stuff pertaining to the ancestral religion belongs in a separate article (which is pending), which could be linked from this one. The title of the article is Vicariate Apostolic of Fiji, and that's what the article should focus on, not extraneous side issues.
I can understand why the encyclopedia whence the article came had this background detail, but Wikipedia already has or will have articles about every conceivable detail concerning Fiji. Each topic belongs in a separate article. Readers consulting an article with a specific title want concise information on that topic, without having to wade through a screen and a half of extraneous details to find it. - I'm looking forward to the 'pending' article; meanwhile I temporarily reinstate the context section, which is not at all irrelevant but will hopefully become largely redundant when we can refere to its pending brother. Fastifex 10:23, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

- If you want to put in all that guff, then at least make sure it's up to date, not obsolete. Wikipedia doesn't need 100-year old population data presented as if it were today's. But if you like, I'll get some others to have a look at the article, and will leave the final decision to them. David Cannon 11:50, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
On the contrary, no point in current population etc. for an entity that ceased to exist nearly half a century ago. Fastifex 14:01, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll ask a Fijian Wikipedian to have a look at the article. He can judge better than I can. David Cannon 22:30, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

- i'd go farther than David, the context section is a load of colonial crap written by someone with only a cursory understanding of pre-contact religion. I've shied away from removing it as i don't have the time to get into it right now, but i've done as much as i can with the time i have right now --Xorkl000 23:24, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
