VCR (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
VCR is a punk rock/electronica hybrid band that does not bill themselves as "adventure funcore" but continues to be called so. The band comes from Richmond, Virginia.
The band itself has had a consistent lineup throughout its short life, possessing 5 members. Chad Middleton provides vocals and plays keyboard, Mya Anitai also sings and plays keyboard, Casey Tomlin plays keyboard, Steve Smith plays bass, and Christian Newby plays drums. The music itself has its own distinct style, which can be due in part of the frenetic lyrics, the keyboard trio, and the complete absence of a guitar giving the bass player a true opening to shine at all times.
The band itself has a quite quirky, schizophrenic vibe, some of its songs possessing some of the most absurd yet incredibly insightful lyrics. Their song DVD is actually written from the perspective of a DVD player, which is tired of having the same movies put into it day in and day out ("It's just a piece of society they put inside of me, and it's so unfair") and they go as far to actually having the DVD talking about lashing out against its owners and then waking up to find out its all just been a dream.
VCR originated on the Richmond-based PopFaction Records in 2003, but was quickly signed on by SideOneDummy Records around 2004–2005.

(NOTE: It was presumed by some generally paranoid and worrisome fans that the sixth track, "We Are VCR," was removed from the CD due to its references to local Richmond university, Virginia Commonwealth University; when VCR made the transition to the international SideOneDummy Records audience members may not have understood why they were referencing a college when punk kids are supposed to hate school. No official comments have been made on this subject, and the song is probably changed for mixing reasons.
