Vasant Honavar

Professor Vasant Honavar is an American computer scientist, specializing in artificial intelligence. He received his Ph.D. in 1990 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he worked with Leonard Uhr.
Dr. Vasant Honavar is a professor of Computer Science at Iowa State University. He heads the Iowa State University Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory. He is the founding director of the Iowa State University Center for Computational Intelligence, Learning and Discovery. He is on the faculty of the interdepartmental graduate programs in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Human-Computer Interaction at Iowa State University. He has held visiting professorships at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Vasant Honavar is known for his research contributions in artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks, semantic web and bioinformatics and computational biology. He has published over 150 refereed research articles, including a number of highly cited articles (c.f. Citeseer, Google Scholar), as well as several books on these topics. His recent work is focused on data integration and knowledge discovery from semantically heterogeneous data sources, learning from biological data, and modular ontologies.
