Utah House of Representatives

The Utah House of Representatives is the lower body of the Utah State Legislature. There are 75 Representatives, each of whom is elected from districts having approximately 22,064 to 23,888 residents, these districts are based on population figures from the U.S. Census. Representatives are elected in even-numbered years and serve a two-year term. Representatives take office on the first day of January following their election.

[edit] Qualifications for Office
A House member must be at least 25 years old, a resident of Utah for three years and a resident of his or her district for six months and pay the required filing fee which is equal to 1/8 of 1% of the total salary for the full term of office legally paid to the officeholder.[1]

[edit] Leadership
The Speaker of the House is generally responsible for supervising the officers and employees of the House, and conducting House sessions. He is also responsible for enforcing rules of order, and appointing members of legislative committees.
The Majority and Minority leaders are responsible for conducting party caucuses, informing members of agendas and voting schedules, and mobilizing party strength in opposition to or support of legislation. They are assisted in their responsibilities by the Whips and Assistant Whips.
